New 6" DD coil............................

The new coil was delivered last might just before dark! I was able to get out this morning for just under two hours. I really do like this new coil! I hunted a trashy park that has been pounded again and again. Sens=23, gb= man 56, am and 4 tones. Got LOTS of signals and was able to seperate out the good targets with ease. I do not dig all targets as there is just way too much trash but did manage 7 quarters, 9 dimes, 5 nickles and 11 pennies one was a wheatie. I did dig a few ring tabs and two big screw caps, that were iffy, but I had to get a feel of the tid and tones. Only a few fooled me but most I could tell were nickles. The nickles give a solid 12. One thing I found was that I was getting a solid 44 on quarters that were close to the surface. Any else finding this? All in all, I am impressed at the ability of this coil to seperate the good from the bad, if a moderate swing is used, even in the very trashy areas. I didn't have any problems with iron. Lots and lots of targets but the coil was able to pick out the goodies right in the junk. A couple of times I would switch to coin pattern 2 that I have set up to my liking but I found myself going back to all metal and listening for the sweet high tones. Most of the ground I hunt is moderate but trashy and I think I am going to really like the 6" DD high freq. coil just fine. :clapping:

Sounds like you had a successful "maiden voyage" with your new coil. Ya gotta love that 4-tones in all metal!

If you find a way to positively reject screw caps, let me know. The TID and sound of a 4-inch deep screw cap are so similar to a quarter, I can't tell them apart. With their size being similar to the quarter, even the Prospecting mode won't give me a clue. A couple weeks ago, I was about ready to stop digging targets that were less than 3 inches, until the Barber quarter came out at less than an inch! Guess those screw caps aren't so bad after all! Hi James,

I found a couple of quarters that read that also but the ID returned to 42 once out of the ground. Memorial pennies are ranging from 28 thru 34, all of them being from the 70s that I found in my first outing. I picked up both the DD and concentric 6" coils and have only been trying the concentric one so far.
