New 5X10 almost unusable.

Hello, just tested my new 5X10 coil yesterday w/GB Pro and left the field scratching my head. While it performed well in disc. ANY attempt to use in AM was a nightmare. Virtually any contact with the ground (even a hint of contact) or at one point sweeping through grass resulted in so many falses it proved unusable. Even tapping the unit along the mounting rod produced false signals. Attempts at lowering gain, securing wire to stem at base, ground balancing every few seconds, to no avail. If this was a case of loose or faulty windings, why would it not happen in disc mode? Has anyone else experienced this? Brand new from Kellyco, is this normal before I send it back?

That is not normal in my experiencel, I have been using the 5X10 in both disc and all metal in fields where there are solid weeds and stubble. Every swing is hitting something and I do not get falsing in either modes. Thats a bummer.

You need to send that back in (just the coil)

Check the wire where it comes out of the coil and wiggle it. I had a bad coil different brand for diff. machine do what your saying and when I checked it it was bad where it was coming right out of the coil when I wiggled it.

OK, will try those tips out first. Think it will be a good coil without these issues. Appreciate the help.

I use my 5x10 on the G2 and Omega and regularly go weed wacking with no problems or falsing whatsoever...something is likely wrong with the coil. As others have suggested, start looking at loose connection points.

Send that coil back. It is not working properly. Loose wires or whatever you did not cause it to act the way you described. There are too many good reports on that coil. All metal should not matter. JM2
