New 3030 coming

Ben Town

Member
Well I took the big leap.
Traded in my Safari and ordered a 3030
Got Andys new book yesterday and will have it read once today and will go over it again for the high points.
The machine should be in my hands Wednesday, do the assembly , get acquainted with the machine and then hit my test garden .
When the weather cooperates it's off to the site I've been hitting for relics , turn on the GPS and cover the area !!!
Will have lots of questions in the near future , I'm sure.

Congratulations Ben, the resource center forum is loaded with tons of info. That should give you plenty to read until your new detector gets here. http://www.findmall.com/list.php?87

Be sure you go over your "worked out" areas, you will be impressed at what you have missed. It is a killer machine

Congratulations on the new machine! I too upgraded from the Safari, tho I am unable to let her go.
Study Andy's book whenever you have spare time and take lots of notes. If you can make one of his Bootcamps, its worth the time imo.
Hope you realize you just started a new career exploring the potential of a great machine. I'm still learning it after years.

eta: working with the CTX taught me a LOT about what the Safari was trying to tell me. I am a better Safari user due to my time on the CTX.

I've done a lot of reading here and some ont the other forums. Watched a lot of videos , just need to get ahold of the machine and start the learning prosses.
Andys book on the 3030 has a lot of useful info, if you don't have one get a copy .
Also contacted Andy about the Bootcamp scheduale for 2017 and he replayed back and said it's in the works .
I will defenatly try and attend one that's close.
More questions soon

Well it arrived today .
Got it assembled and charging the batteries now.
May get to get acquainted and some bench testing tomorrow .
First impressions are very sturdy build quality, I guess to make it water proof it it would have to be.
Don't know why Minelab just throws there manual away and insted include "The CTX Handbook "
If a guy had to rely on the "assembly" book they send you would not have a clue as to how to do anything other then turn it on.
I'm pretty Confident that after running the Safari for awhile the CTX will fall into place in time.
More questions to come

Since you had the Safari your learning curve will be less. You should be ok. God luck

I've spent several hours the last couple days learning all the controls and different settings.
I have Andys book and have read it cover to cover and go back to brush up a lot.
I have set it up like he recommends and even change the patterns in the preset relic and coin modes per his advice.
I figure this will give me a fair start till I can make personal adjustments on my own.
After making the changes I always go to the detector garden to see how it all works.
Looks like nice enough weather this weekend to get out to my favorite site .
It's a very large field so I'm looking forward to using the GPS and hit it all if the weather holds.
This is going to be a great machine , lots more to learn

They didn't really throw the manual away. It is included on the CD with the Xchange 2 program in digital PDF format. Andy's CTX book is a more in depth manual anyway. Clive's book on the CTX is a pretty good one too if you haven't got it. I have a couple of the CTX beach hunting books by Gary Drayton but he doesn't really go into details like I hoped they would have. He more the less just gives a few pointers on where to hunt with the CTX on the beach to find stuff. He doesn't deviate from the factory beach setting all that much. I was hoping his books would go more in depth on beach setups, and patterns, and tips for dealing and recognizing common beach trash items. Clive's CTX book is sort of a newer update to the beach and coin hunting section of Andy's book. They go together pretty good.

That's part of my trouble, no computer.
Went to an IPad after my last computer crash and it's been fine till now.
I guess there will be a nice computer under the XMas tree;-)
I will look up Clive's book , not heard of that one.
Looks to be nice today and tomorrow so I'll get a few hours in.

You might be able to download the .pdf file of the manual on your iPad from the Minelab website. There's really no need though; if you have Andy's book. The exchange program though is worth having if you are into doing pattern changes, downloads, and using the GPS stuff for your machine.

If you don't have the need for the latest in computers BT, you might try looking for an older model a few years old. I noticed the Pawn shops have some pretty nice ones for under $100, Windows 7 that can be upgraded to Windows 10 which I did, but I would leave it Windows 7 if I were going to do it over again.

As Danial said, the Exchange program would be worth the $100 to me.

Agreed.
Seriously, its a waste of time to fool with the ML manual if you have Andy's book. .

Glad you liked it, Daniel--I'm about the gold, and the CTX is a great detector for getting it.
