put the new coil on and swung at the beach got some sparatic hits a low tone then high tone then nothing but it showed 8 to 10 " depth. I dug , nothing I go to all metal still sounds something there . So I dig another 5 or 6 " and a lead fishing weight. The sensitivity or disc does not change anything. I finally got a continous hit and got a pull tab at 5" . This was all dry sand with a landstar.

hi ricky. a lot of things can cause your machine to act up like that. make sure the coil plug is securely fastened first - bh's are notorious for the plug coming loose and the machine starts acting crazy. try to keep the coil as dry as possible. wet coils are bad for any machine not designed for beach use.
it could be you are detecting some really "hot" sand too. mineralization, including naturally occurring salts and iron can play havoc with your machine. i'm not very familiar with the landstar model, but several people on here are. i hope this lil' bit will help. hh,

Hi ricky...I do not own the 10" coil, but I am familiar with the Land Star...As stated earlier, check the coil plug, then your batteries, then turn your SENS all the way down to the 9 o'clock position, and the DISC all the way CCW...if she is still falsing, it is either mineralized soil, or your Land Star needs to be re-tuned...I have heard rumors, but I do not know for certain, that the Land Star needs to be factory tuned to the 10" coil...This makes some sense, but they are all supposed to be interchangeable without having to re-tune the machine.
let us know if you get any improvements...
