I dug this "trash" back in October at a place that I believe was Lt. Cornwallis' camp in 1777. It was a frustrating day, being new to the V3. I dug nothing but some bottle caps for three hours. I figured that I had it wrong and this was not the site of the camp as I had originally guessed. On my way back to the car I found the small tubular item. I shrugged, and I put it in my pocket and left not giving the item much thought.
I was cleaning up my office last week when I came across it again, and I tossed it in the trash bag. Luckily, the next day I saw a post with an almost identical item with the description "ramrod channel". I quickly retrieved it from the bag, which was still in the house.
What I found is the ramrod channel from a musket (hopefully a Brown Bess) that may have been used by one of Lt. Cornwallis' guards! Needless to say I need to return to the site and give it a more thorough search. I think I am much more proficient with the V3 than I was back in October!
