Never hurts to ask...

Went to Gettysburg over the weekend and had an awesome trip. (also hit Antietam and Harpers Ferry)

The place I stayed at was on the battlefield but not in the National Park. Asked the owner if I could hunt the large 1800's farm and they said it would be fine. Unfortunately, I came to learn that it's been hunted to death over the years. Oh well, I wasn't surprised.

Looks like they all did a great job of cleaning up the place :) Didn't find a heck of a lot; plenty of junk, clad, 2 repros of military buttons (the Virginia button being made in Connecticut was a dead giveaway  ) However, I did find one that looks to be legit. From what I can tell it's an union officers button? 24 stars and 4 arrows in the Eagles talon. It's not the greatest pic but there's more detail than you can see here...

Also found this bullet; interesting but I'm told it's modern because of the crimp... I just don't recall every seeing a bullet that was flat at the bottom.

Last two times I've been at really old B&B's I got the opportunity to hunt. So, always ask permission. The worst someone can say is no. :)

Nice button and the bullet is modern. Copper jacket and the reeded type crimp (cannelure) is one give away. I have yet to find a button but my time is coming...d2

Considering the place had been hunted to death for years, I was real happy to find the button. Only been using the ExpII since April so it was a confidence booster... I must be doing something right :)

I mostly beach hunt as my area on Long Island doesn't offer a heck of a lot in the way of history. I will be hunting around my church again though, now that I'm one with the Exp. There's an 1827 Quaker meeting house on the site. Just waiting for a good soaking rain. Right now, it's like concrete.
