Never heard of this Garrett Model...

There's a Garrett detector on eBay I've not heard of before, and no it's not mine and I'm not trying to be sneaky. It's called a "Security Investigator G-500." It looks like a normal GTA 500 with variations in the control housing and display screen.. Why the special name and designation? Was there anything special about this model or series, or was it just a re-brand to entice law enforcement? I'm guessing it to be mid 1990s?

Interesting...

I'm still curious to know what differentiates it from standard models.

Maybe instead of markings on the display for "pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters", it's got markings for "bullets, shivs, bongs and needles?"

What's interesting is that link says "whether you're looking for a shell casing in the grass or a murder weapon in the lake...etc." I guess their expecting the bad guy to throw a gun like 5 feet offshore. Not like you can dive with that. :) It also says you can use it to "discover contraband." If only my detector could find murder weapons and contraband!

prob not any difference electronically.... just packaged and geared to law enforcement since they already sell them "wand" and "G-2 Enforcer" detectors

Its a GTA 500 Ultra only with different icons, representing the same conductivity as firearm ammo. It's a good machine. That was my first Garrett and found thousands of coins with mine. You may have to make a new ID marker on the meter as to where what coins read where. Below is a field test of the GTA 500.

Ah, thanks, John, that's kind of what I was thinking. I still have my GTA 500 Ultra. It was/is a pretty solid detector.

I'm going to sell it to help pay for my GTI 2000 -> GTI 2500 Conversion. Time to upgrade the fleet...
