I am new to posting but had to with the find I had this week. I was scavenging an old junk pile when I spotted this 75mm cartridge!! It looks to have been presented to someone from what the plate that is fastened to it says. I have to admit I wasn't using my MD when I spotted the end poking out of the dirt. I have also posted some pics of my other finds with my MD. The one appears to be a medal but I know little about it. And the button I am assuming is off an old jacket prob. a costume button but seems old that is why I included the pic of the back of it. I am happy to hear any info. that anyone might have on any of these pieces. Hopefully I will post some more finds soon. Happy Hunting!! Have a great day!!

Great finds. Wish the 75MM could tell us the story. The button only has 11 stars on it so may just be from a kids little Navy or Sailor shirt or coat. Could be it is real though. I read about a Civil War detectorist a year or two ago who enjoyed finding canon balls. One day at his home it was asumed he was cleaning one up and it exploded. Your find looks disarmed but I often wonder about the guys digging up and collecting those old canon balls back east. It's amazing here in the U.S. just how much old ordinance has been found from WW-I and II. The Japs in WW-II used to send armed Ballons across with the pacific air currents so to try and hit tall buildings along the west coast to destroy them or the mountains to start forest fires. Some made it into Idaho and I have often wondered just how many were never recovered. Neat finds, thanks for sharing.

Thank you for your responses. I have found very little info on the shell. What I have found is that they were from WWI and were given to some employees of the American Can Company. Approx. around 1919. I am curious how many might be in circulation still. I am planning on leaving the brass casing in he condition that I found it. I am debating if it would be beneficial to get rid of the surface rust on the bullet or to leave well enough alone. Do any collectors have an opinions? I am pretty new to MD'ing and seeking any knowledge that you may offer. I appreciate your time and look forward to any responses.

More times than not you are better to leave it as you found it. I'm no expert on antiques but everything I've ever seen or read on the subject says to "leave it alone'. But again I'm no expert.
