Never guess what my kids found! Funny!

Haha, you guys are gonna laugh over this one!

Last week, we were up at the creek. My kids were doing some gold panning and running the sluice. My mom is over visiting from the greater Seattle area. We were about 2 miles (ish) from the Candian border in the mountains of NE Washington state where I live. My son and my mom walk off to go look around and I kept busy digging up nails :) Well, My boy is 12 years old. We are country folk, not from the city and we are proud of that. Used to live in the city and now I am happy in the mountains doing my own thing.

Ok, here is where it starts to get funny..... He comes walking back with this plant that looked like Marijuana. I dont exactly have a lot of experience in that department, but the leaf was pretty easy to recognize. He asked me if it was pot. I said "Show me where you got this." So him and my mom took my back over towards my truck. I had parked on top of a patch of it and had no idea. So we got home and I tried to look up plants that looked like marijuana and I could not find anything that was a pot wanna be.

So I did not really put any more thought into the issue. Today we were back up there, but this time we were about a mile from the border. This is in the mountains, no paved roads for like 15 miles. The kids were back running the sluice and I was detecting in this field by the creek. Well there a border patrol rig parked by us with his horse trailor. Soon as the sun set he came back and loaded up his horse. He came over and parked his rig right next to us and we started talking. This is one of the coolest and nicest guys I have ever met. He was fun to talk to.

So I asked him, "Whats with all these weeds around here that look like marijuana?" He said, "Oh its probably just some sort of random hemp" So I told my other son to go grab one and bring it over. So Joe runs over and grabs this plant, comes back over and holds it up. The border patrol guy says "Well if it has 7 leaves then its real weed" So my son with a huge shit eating grin starts counting the leaves (Remember he is holding up a pot plant to the border patrol guy). 1 2 3 4 5 6 7........ I start rolling and the guy says "Yup, thats marijuana. Where did you get it? " I said "It grows everywhere around here"

So that was kind of that, we talked for awhile about other stuff and then left. Well 15 (ish) miles or so when we hit pavement, the border patrol guy was waiting for me. He said "Brandon, tell me where you found those other plants at" I gave him directions to the OTHER marijuana patch that I parked my truck on last week. Needless to say, He is going out and checking. He was pretty convinced that someone has a grow op right there and their plants are seeding around the creek. So there ya have it, our marijuana / border patrol story.

Oh and for the record, I dug up four penny's. Was a little bummed about it, but then got home and read that email about the guy who sold a large cent for 600k.. Made me happier to have those pennies!

Even small grow ops are worth 100's of thousands - and most criminals will kill to avoid 20 years in jail. I wouldn't go back there.
