I was working the fences around a Twp. ball field when a Twp. pickup truck pulled up. A well dressed guy got out and asked me to come over. I'm thinking Rats, I'm getting tossed. Well he asked me if I had paid a fee for hunting. Shorted story he was just pulling my chain. Anyway after a short chat I gave him a card I had made up. Told him i'm retired and if they ever need some help finding something, give me a call. The guy looked at me and said Hey you wouldn't want to give me a hand down the Boro buildng, part time would you? No thanks I said, but I got a good buddy who might be interested. So he gives me his card and says Please send him down. So I'm counting that job as a Find. Thats pretty good in these times. My pal is going down today to check it out.

Hey, this sounds like my type of guy. Knows his authority, realizes good people doing their thing, and has a little fun in the process. And to top it off, gives an opportunity.

Hi. Nice post and nice finds to you.

I was detecting a strip of grass between the parking lot and the sidewalk at the local high school field house. A guy drove up in a school district pickup and shouted something to me. I couldn't hear well because of my headphones so I walked over and asked him what he said? He said,"I hope you know this is school property"! I thought ,"Oh no, a wise ass", and responded ,"I sure do, since I paid for part of it with my property taxes". He sat there for a second with a kind of stunned look on his face, and then broke out laughing. He said,"That's good enough for me". And then he began asking me about metal detecting and we got along quite well. I think he intended to run me off but changed his mind when I came back at him so quickly. After a few minutes he asked me if I could help him find some buried sewer covers. I said no problem and did find two covers where he needed to get in and clear a clog. He took my phone number and said he would call me if he got a detector and maybe I could show him the ropes? I never have heard from him, but he has seen me out and driven by and waved a few times. I have been approached a couple of times by property developers who turned out to be really good folks if you can just get off on the right foot. I try to offer a big smile and a handshake right off the bat and that has gone a long ways to develop rapport. Most of the developers I have met were curious as to what I was doing where an old house was demolished, etc. And usually I couldn't find an owner to ask permission as land titles and deeds , etc were still in the progress of being updated by the courts. Most people are friendly enough but on that first contact you really have to sell yourself.
