Found this in our local park today. I am surprised I have not found this marker before and have never seen or found one before.

After seeing $250 fine or imprisonment I left it right there. I am going to see what more I can find on this thing.

Using my new SE and also found a old dog name tag and 3 Wheaties.

It's a survey marker or benchmark. Here is some info on them and there is also a link on this website to find many more of them (they are eveywhere). It's basicly a permanent marker placed by the US government at a known point to be used as a reference in surveying. You can also verify your GPS accuracy with these if you have one.

PS. If you are not familiar with the sport of "geocaching" this is the #1 website for that as well if you are interested. This is my other hobby and I find some crossover usage of my GPS with relic hunting.

If I had to backtrack the disk from your photo, I would say it is the one located on the old town hall grounds of the village of Onieda Castle, NY at coordinates of N 43
