Never fails-just when I DON'T have the detector...

I went to meet a friend for some hunting yesterday-pig hunting that is. He still had some work to do so I decided to check out some public land for pigs since I'm supposed to be finding a place for some friends to hunt. I scouted and didn't see much in the way of signs but still had time to kill. I headed back towards the gate to check out something that had caught my eye and was nagging at me.. The area by the gate was an old homesite! I checked around a bit and found signs that told me most of the story, but never could figure out exactly where the house had been. I decided to look for a well and almost immediately spotted a weird concrete slab that wasn't laying flat on the ground. I could see where critters have been going in and out so I kept back just a bit and shined my flashlight under the slab-jackpot! There was the lip of the well under the concrete slab. Dang, and me with no detector!

I did shoot a juvenile boar later that day though. I really wanted to shoot one with my slug gun and open sights! Here it is-hope you like!

Good for you man. I have heard a couple wild stories about those boars. Specialy the mature tuskers.

LOL-yes I am a better hog hunter than coinshooter! However, I've been hunting pigs for a long time. Little ones like him can be good eating! Usually the sows are best and about anything under 200lb. I'll head back out there in a week or two depending on my work schedule. I always have so many irons in the fire that it takes me awhile to run the gamut of tot lots, old houses, pigs, coyotes, fishing, tot lots, beach, old houses..you get the idea! All that pesky work gets in the way too!

Those hogs are some good eatin, I wish we had more in ky.
