Nevada Gold found with White's GMT

Closeup of a 1.7 gram specimen I found recently near Winnemucca, NV with my White's GMT. This and a few other pieces are my first Nevada gold! The GMT is excellent on gold like this that PI detectors have a hard time seeing.

Neat!

Got to get out there! Sounds like your new life in the semi-tropics (compared to AK at least) is agreeing with you.

Nicer specimen Steve and congrats on your first Nevada gold. So are you a resident here now? My first piece of NV gold came from close to there as well.

Jim

Hi Steve,
Welcome to the area!
Great central location to jump off into the Ca gold fields as well.
Awesome ill probably run into you out there somewhere. Have you been to the sawtooth area yet. That's next on my list and hopefully before its too cold or maybe one more trip up to trinity.
Best thing about Nevada hunting no ticks or fleas. And open vegitation you can almost hunt anywhere.
I just moved back to the area as well but I am in South lake Tahoe. Doing well on the jewelry since I got back on the 20th.

Have fun.
Jim

Yeah been over to California a couple times now. Beautiful country in the Sierras! I have to admit I do not even know where the Sawtooths are though. I have a lot to learn yet.

I will be around a lot and fairly visible lining up speaking gigs at club meetings and stuff to meet people so chances are we will bump into each other. Best if luck with the jewelry detecting!

Thanks Steve,
Speaking of clubs do you have any recommendations, I been considering joining one lately but don't find many with claims that are any where close.
Ive been looking at the Golden Caribou as it was recommended some time ago by Darrel from the Reno prospectors shop. Darrel has now passed, I hope Jennifer is well.

If you decide to put together any tutorial outings I would love to sign up for that. especially concerning Pi use. I hunted with a GM3 for thirteen years so my VLF skills are pretty down but could always use advice from the experts about site reading and geology. I picked up a SD 2200v2 fully loaded but need more time with it its my first prospecting PI. How do you feel about running in channel 2 and deep only for this machine?

Coming from a prospecting base I feel gives me a edge in the micro jewelry department as I am used to wading through trash and nails looking for faint signals. I find allot of earrings!!!
Best
Jim

I know less than most about what clubs are what myself and been too busy already to dig into the subject much. Seems to be a lot of good ones though.

My SD2200 was very good to me but while I was aware if the one channel trick I always ran mine in both channels. I hear you about nugget detecting making a person good at other types of detecting. If you can find gold nuggets everything else ends up seeming a bit easy by comparison.

Steve, when I heard you had moved to Reno, I figured it was only a matter of time before you discovered those desert mountains, I got a grand tour of them last yr by my friend George and his brother Mike who have been hunting them for yrs, great area to detect, we didn't see but two people all day. I cannot wait to go back.

Well done Steve,

Any size nugget is a treat finding and them can be tough, And with the GMT makes the hunt even better that is one good nugget detector.

Plus, Glad to see and hear you're enjoying retirement you've earned it that's for sure. Please keep us posted with future West Coast finds, Won't be long you'll be searching for both nuggets and 49er relics :)

Congrats!
Paul (Ca)

Retired. Come on Steve we must work till we drop. Best regards, George Kinsey

Hey George!

Well, retirement is not entirely accurate! It was all about getting out of a lifetime in Alaska. Been there, done that. To leave Alaska I had to leave my main business behind. So I retired from that business. In reality all I did was move, and am focusing on prospecting and writing waiting to see what life brings my way. I never bought into the retirement thing anyway. I always have more to do than time to do it.

Hope life is treating you well!

Hi Paul,

Still waiting to get my hands on a Garrett ATX. I hope you are funding plenty of time to go detecting. Seems like even now I struggle to find enough time!
