Nervous about this CZ20

I just bought a CZ20 and it is my first ever water detector. I'm actually afraid to fully submerge it! Are they normally very leak proof? One thing I noticed while just air testing it is that when the red led's blink I can actually see light through the plastic at the top edge of the control box. I've looked close at this area and don't see any cracks or voids, nothing seems loose. Is this normal? I can try and take a pic if that would help. thanks

Just looked at my CZ20 and the red lights do show through the top edge pretty well. Mine is still waterproof; had it in the water this past weekend. Even though it is built pretty solid, as old as the CZ20's are getting, there is always a chance that a seal somewhere may start to leak. The good news is that Fisher labs (part of First Texas) is still taking in broken CZ20's and converting them to CZ21's for what most people consider a fair price.

I'd go ahead and use it and see how it does. If it fails at some point, see about getting it converted.
Cheers,
tvr

yup, just as tvr stated.

on the older CZ20s, the main failure point is the rubber around the pinpoint button - it starts to crack and eventually fails if not maintained. using it submerged will be the only way to find out. if it leaks, Fisher will convert it to a CZ21 for a very fair price. I've converted a few already and Felix has always had my units back in a timely manner - they're customer service is excellent!

get out there and hunt!

Thanks guys! I was about to smear some clear silicone over that spot, lol! I'll give it a try.

That's the problem with buying a used water unit as one wonders about its underwater integrity...At this point only way to tell is to submerge and get those gold rings...

Like they say, the only way to tell is dunk it. Like dunk it in the bath tub at least it will be fresh water for the test. Not salt water. ;)
