I got the exact coin shown above from my local coin dealer just before Christmas. He just gave it to me. Said it's in too bad of shape to sell. After I looked at it, I knew that it would make an easy and nice looking coin ring to craft. You see, it is so old, that is was quite thin, making it easy to burr with my Dremmel tool. And the stamped "NAPOLEON III EMPEREUR" was very legible, so it would still be identifiable on the finished coin ring, provided that I didn't polish it off.

Below is the finished coin ring. Thanks for looking. :)

That fascinates me John, what a great looking ring. How do you get the edge rolled over without damaging the detail?

What do you do, John? Drill a hole in the center of the coin, slide it up on a "tapered punch" then start working it with a brass hammer to turn it over ?????

good work would also be interest in your technique-while serving on board ship yrs ago people would bang on nickles with a spoon making rings but they turned out smooth -not with writing as yours.

John, you gotta share the secret! That is amazing. I'd love to try that, but don't have a clue as to where to start.
