NEODYMIUM IRON BORON MAGNETS--ANY GOOD?

larryw

New member
I have seen these magnets advertised on ebay, supposedly to help when detecting. They are supposed to be very powerful. Has anybody out there used these things, and if so, have you found them to be of any value while detecting, and if so, how? I am not an expert on magnets or electronics, but it seems to me that there might be some interference with the detector itself. Any thoughts?

I use these http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tools/Clamps,_support_tools/Guitar_Repair_Magnets.html for guitar repair and you will not believe how strong they are. I have yet to use them when detecting, but they are strong enough to pick up anything you are likely to find while in the field. They will raise a nasty blood blister if you let your finger get caught between them . I cannot pry them apart, you have to slide them to get them to separate.
I have little doubt that they will pick up any scraps they get close to in loose soil.
This is not a plug for STEWMAC, they just happen to be the place that I bought mine.
