NEL snake

Anybody tried the NEL snake coil on any of the Tesoro's?
I have been kicking around the idea of getting one for mine. Also anybody know where I can find a good deal on one? I checked with one dealer and he said it would be several months before he could get another one.

I did take a look at possibly getting one of these coils for some of my trashy sites, but in the end decided against it as i all ready have the 4'' and 7'' coil so really co not see any advantage gained.of course if one does not all ready have any small coils then the Snake coil could be a good option.

Mega,

I don't recall ever seeing or hearing about a 4x7" coil for a Tesoro. Could you give a little more info about the 4x7, is it still available? I could see the snake would not be a big enough step to make it worth while.
I am running a Lobo, with the stock 5x10 and the snake comes in at 3 5/8" x 6 3/4" so that looks like a big enough step that it may be worth while.

Hi Ron,in my post i did not mention anything about a 4x7 coil,i mention that i had a 4'' and a 7'' in other words 2 different size coil and not one as you have mentioned,so hence the reason that i mention that the NEL Snake coil was in a similar size zone as the 2 coils that i all ready owned if that makes sense.

Hope that clarifies everything

WOW thanks for the correction, I read the words but I guess my mind was thinking one coil.

Got you and thanks:thumbup:

got one on F19 its good if you want a small coil , but if you already have a NEL 5" or similar probably not worth the spend, its a nice coil but it wont make an old site new again

I was kind thinking buying the snake coil and making this Lobo into an inland jewelry hunter. I think hunting in the parks with the amount of trash, the 5x10 is a little on the big side. I don't really have a need for a Lobo in this neck of woods. It has been in the closet from April until now, I haven't used it the first time yet, except for a few minutes in my little test garden.

Ron,i think your combination of using a Lobo with the Snake coil for fine jewellery could well be a good move, always fancied a Lobo over here in the UK on trashy site as they are pretty good for silver hammered coins,so as they had originally been design for nugget hunting it would be a logic move for fine gold jewellery and notice how i spell 'jewellery' the proper way not like you folks across the pond do  :ukflag:

Funny, eh? :canadaflag:
Ever since moving to Canada from the US, my computer tries to correct my spelling all the time. What's wrong with Jewelry, color, honor..........

I've got a 5-pin NEL Sharpshooter for my Tesoro's. NEL makes a top notch coil. Thick cable and quality components. Give Ron at Gold Diggers, in New Jersey, a call.

Got the snake which i bought when they came out.......received my super tune lobo with a 5,75 but never tried the snake maybe in august!!!!can't wait!!!! air test make it less powerful than the DD!but hopefully more selectivity

@Rivers rat,R,how often do you Mudlark the thames ??? as you have been doing it for many years i would think that you have the top licence for the foreshore as you have the experiance.

I've never tried the NEL coil but have used the smaller Tesoro elliptical concentric coil on the LST. Seems like they were advertised as a 3" x 7" coil back in the day? I guess the later 5.75" round coil took its place? Overall not a bad coil especially for getting in "tight spots" or hunting in really trashy areas. Sometimes I'll take the LST with the smaller elliptical coil out to a WW1 era trash dump and it can do a pretty good job at picking the non-ferrous targets out of the ferrous field. By the way...I measured my smaller Tesoro elliptical coil and the exact measurements are 3-5/8" x 7-1/8". If that NEL coil is anything like the "hard to find" smaller Tesoro elliptical coil it should be a keeper!
