NEL Sharpshooter Coil cover and wet grass?

I was using my NEL Sharpshooter Coil on my T2 Classic which is normally a very stable combination. Well that was until yesterday morning after a rain shower and it went nuts. The grass was very wet, wet enough that it filled my coil cover with water. I removed the coil cover and it went back to operating smoothly. Have any of you experienced this? I guess on wet grass the coil cover is going to stay off from now on.

I have never used a coil cover on any NEL coil,as the base is made of resin i doubt that they would ever wear out.In all the years of detecting i have never used coil covers with one exception on my Deus and the reason for that is the battery access point is from underneath the coil.

Never had any problems of wearing a coil out,and yes i keep my coil flat to the ground as well.Of course this is only what i have done,in all at last count i think i counted the coils that i have and use at about 45,so a fair amount of money invested in them and still in pristine condition.

Thanks for the info Mega I'm either going to leave it off or put a coat of silicone around it to seal it to prevent water from getting in.

The Mars range of coils are built very similar to the NEL coils ie with a really heavy hard wearing resin base and they quote in the sales blurb they dont require coil covers, some all plastic based coil cases that are very thin plastic thickness then it may well be worth while.

But resin filled ones these days are very strong and durable,of course if you sell a detector/coil then you could highlight the fact when selling that its always vbeen used with a coil cover, that does add value i guess, but as i keep my detectors and coils for many many years that is not a issue with me.

I guess resin filled ones are more durable Mega. I guess I will leave the coil cover off unless I'm hunting in a rocky area where chips could occur.
