NEL Sharp 5" coil on AT-Gold anyone using this combo?

I am getting one of these and I'm hoping it will give me a little better target separation over the 5x8" coil in some of the nail infested house sites I hunt at. If you've used one tell me what your experience has been using this setup. Thanks Morgan

I was hoping someone would have chimed in by now. I hope I'm not the guinea pig on this setup if I am I will let you guys know how this setup works and I may do a video to demonstrate it.

The problem with using after market coils, is that if it doesn't work great, is it the coil or is it the electonics in the box? Garrett won't support you, because it was not designed and built by them. So, if you are unhappy, your only recourse is to try and get your money back from the maker of the 'after market coil." And that will cost you more $$$. Of course, it might work OK or well to your own standards, then there is no ptoblem. I haven't had much success with the couple of after market coils I have tried. But then again....someone else might have. Any one else have any experience?

John if Garrett made a 5" DD coil I would have bought one they only offer the 4.5" sniper coil which is concentric. In Georgia we have some highly mineralized dirt and a ton of sites that are covered in thick bed of nails iron and that's where the DD coil exceeds in target separation and cutting through ground minerals.

John, I have been using the NEL Sharpshooter in place of the Garrett 5 x 8 and am very pleased with it. I know many on here have stated that their 5 x 8 coil was as deep, or very close, to the stock 11" coil. That was not the experience I found with the 5 x 8 that I had. Maybe I had one that for whatever reasons lacked typical depth, but it definitely got no where near the depth of the stock 11" or the NEL I have. I do miss the weight of the Garrett 5 x 8. Its like swinging a feather. I, too, wish Garrett would make a 5" DD for the A T. Any that I have ever used have been like a laser in heavy trash. HH jim tn

Sorry to hear that your 5X8 did not get good depth. It is definitely super light and easy to swing for a long time.

I bought one and feel it is getting down very close to the stock coil, if not the same.

I was going to get a Garrett sniper coil , but I was told that the 5X8 was the way to go.

I asked about the Nel Sharpshooter and most people said that there was not a lot of difference.

Needless to say, I have not used a Nel for a comparison, but I think you had a 5X8 that was not working properly.
