Nel coil "tornado" at pro tested and reviewed Garrett knows detectors

Im gonna take my lumps on this one and some i told you sos and what nots. But i also promised to give my review of this nel coil so here we go
hope this helps some people out on the age old question about the nel coils for the at pro.
Showed up today and checked out the new tornado 12x13 in the test garden. Hit solid quarter at 11 inches. About where garrett 8x11 dd coil faded out. After that really not much. Maybe inch more or so. The test garden is not that old so it didnt have much halo effect .The coil is alot heavier, slower reaction time ( yes slightly behind where the target was burried) , and unstable like crazy.. crazzyyy! Had to turn down machine off full by 3 bars to even remotely quite it down. Vdi numbers were more jumpy than the stock coil by far

Alot of excitement over nothing.... I emailed the seller and asked him if this was a normal problem with these new coils.. no repsonse yet.

So coming from a nel fan in the past.... garrett did thier homework and nailed their coils. I own the 5x8 and the 8x11. both much more stable faster response time
Nel has them beat on weight and depth... slightly with the 12x13 tornado. Maybe its way different with the nel attack or the nel. storm, but with that kind of unstableness.... I dunno. Garrett knew what they were doing

Not a problem Dale. I just wanted to try and inform everyone what my results were. There wasnt much on these coils as far as performance for the at pro. Its an awesome machine

hey swkimball85,
did you get my post on our last thread? There was a link there that said the coil you bought is for the gold and not for the at pro. It also stated they were NOT interchangeable. maybe the coils are not interchangeable because of the different frequencies...Do you think that would be the cause of your problems? Also, How can you say the stock coil is better at depth when you stated that the nel coil went at least an inch deeper? I just ordered the ATTACK for the AT GOLD. And i had to order it for the AT GOLD not the AT PRO, since i own the AT GOLD. maybe you can switch yours with them if you contact them. I'd like to hear your thoughts on this though.
Thanks,
Les

Hey les

On depth the stock coil was so much more stable. The nel gave sounds off at a deeper reading but was all over the place . It goes all over the place several inches shallower than the stock coil. I would dig a fainter repeatable 10 inch signal over an erractic 10 inch signal..
I did contact the manufacturer and I believe i discovered the main problem. Where the coil connects to the cable it seems loose.Almost just not put together right. Maybe I just got a bad coil or maybe its just how they built them. Im not sure. I let him know and they working with me
He instructed me to try it in std mode and away from emi. Also to re ground balnce and make sure the plug is in all the way. But to be honest i did all these things. several times. I even tried to tape the base of the coil cable to the shaft to try and secure the cord a little better. Hopefully to prevent any unessasarry wiggle from the coil connector to the coil..
Ill keep posting updates.
I do kinda like the extra weight though. Lol Really it gives the machine a little more push through the grass. But it would wear a peraon down on the side of a hill all day.

Hey kimball85,
Also when switching coils you should reset the detector to factory settings. See if that helps if you didn't try that already. Keep me posted, please. In case i have the same problems. Also what about the coils being interchangeable? I hope you get it figured out.
Thanks again,
Les

There is an experienced detector on another site (can I name it?) who is very excited with his Nel. He posted a picture of the hole where he pulled out a Civil war bullet at 19 inches.

Kellyco has a 13 inch excellerator coil that works
for the Ace machines. I'm going to pick on of them up soon
and see how it does in the farm fields.

I was out the other day in the field where I knew there were once
old houses from the 1840'up until 1870's, at least that is what the
the plat maps shoed. All I could find with the standard Ace 350 coil were
old nails. Now I KNOW there has to be ore than that out there so maybe
a 13 inch coil will bring it to light.

Hey Roland

I Saw the 15x17 inch dig photos. Pretty awesome. I used to own a 15x17 for the xterra 705. Awesome coil. Same design as the original 12x13 tornado coil for other machines. I believe its in the design of the coil. I had the 12x13 tornado for the xterra as well. Slighty behind the dpeth of the big nel. But not much. I mainly used the 12x13 tornado becuase it was alot lighter and greater target seperation than the big 15x17 coil for my xterra.
Thats was why i bought the tornado coil for the at pro. Although I was assured by the dealer that the design change from the older Tornado would just make it lighter, " no difference in depth" there is. At least on the one I got.I also noticed today that someone has a used one on the bay!!!! Already for the at pro!! Must have not liked his either. I sent mine back to ukraine. It was straight up faulty. Too much chatter. Even after everything I tried.
My other Nels rocked! And was so excited to get one for the at pro. Still pretty let down by Nel company on their new tornado coil. I say stick with the garrett proformance 8x11 dd. Its a solid coil.
Les on here was getting a bigger attack coil for his at gold.
The dealer told me that the depth in Nel coils went

Big 15x17
Attack 15"
Storm 13x14
Tornado 12x13

hey swkimball85,
Did you look into that your coil is for the AT GOLD and Not for the AT PRO? I have found more information saying they are not interchangeable in BIG RED WRITING. Here is a link again for it.
http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=ru&sl=ru&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fnel-coils.com

Just scroll down to where it says tornado for at gold and at pro. then click it it will say they are different and not interchangeable so make sure when ordering the coil you say for what machine.

Please respond back. I am still awaiting my arrival of my Nel ATTACK coil. I would like to know if you will get one for the AT PRO and if it is acting better. Or maybe i would buy yours since I own an AT GOLD. Let me know. OKAY?
Thanks,
Les

swkimball85 - So far I have had the same experience as you with the 15" NEL Attack Coil.
Totally unstable and useless so of course my stock coil airtested much better than this.

Made the purchase 5 wks ago and I still don't have a useable coil. NOT HAPPY . . .

It has been in the mail on its way back to NEL for almost 3 weeks now at my expense . . .
$35.25 1st Class Air Intnl.

Think I will just get a refund.

Has anyone compared this coil to their stock coil and honestly had positive results ???

unluckylester says he is happy with it . . . anyone else ???

I recently sent an email to Nel asking if the coils that fit the AT Pro would also fit my AT Gold.
I received the reply back yesterday saying that they were incompatible because of the frequency difference. (AT Pro = 15khz & the AT Gold = 18khz.)
Very disappointed as I interchange both machines quite often with the other's coils & have no problem.
Gary.

anyone have updated information on the tornado coil and the at pro? I ordered one then stumbled across this thread and called and had it cancelled until i can find out if is worth it or not

I use the tornado coil on my A/T Gold and love it . Even use it in heavy trash areas with no problem. Have pulled out many coins in heavy trash areas with the tornado coil. Pinpoints right at tip of coil . Have had no trouble with it at all .

Are you sure that you got the proper NEL Tornado? There is one specifically made for the AT Gold and one for the AT Pro.........The AT Gold NEL will act crazy on the AT Pro........but the AT Pro NEL will work ok on the AT Gold....... I have both and the ATG and ATP and the Tornado is awesome on either one of the AT's as long as you put the proper one on the machine...... This one is for the AT Pro http://www.colonialmetaldetectors.com/nel-tornado-coil-garrett-at-pro.html ........ and this one is for the AT Gold http://www.colonialmetaldetectors.com/nel-tornado-coil-garrett-at-gold.html ...........each specifically state that they are not for use with the other...... I really believe that you got the AT Gold NEL Tornado and not the AT Pro Version.......Just my 2-cents
