NEL 15" Attack Coil for the Minelab Excal

Baja Vinnie

New member
Machine side 4 wires: Black, White, Yellow and Red. NEL Coil side 4 black wires labeled 1, 2, 3 and 4. Does anyone know which NEL numbered wires go to the Minelab colored wires??

Thanks,

Baja Vinnie

Go to the sticky at the top of the page "Two steps to sucess", it will tell you how to wire it up.

Hope you did not cut the wires on the sovereign connector, you will have to do them as they line up with the pins in positions 1 thru 6

No,,,not a sovereign, it's one of my Excal 2's. I'm a little concerned now, I ordered one of Clives connector kits that he specifically states in his ad that it works with the NEL coils, and I'm sure it does. Yet when I contacted him, he had no idea. He directed me to this forum. NEL advertises the 15" Attack coil is compatible with the Minelab Excals (which I'm sure it is) but does not give you any instruction on how to match thier numbered wires with Minelabs color coded wires. 2 days and no response to my emails from NEL. I tried Mel Parker's response... that didn't work either. Now I'm frustrated and stumped.

SO it came raw wires? NO connector...? Let me check with a friend...

On the NEL coil did you check the transmit and receive windings with a meter to determine which was which? The low resistance on the NEL goes to the red and black wires and the high resistance goes to the white and yellow wires. Then use the sticky at the top of the page to get the phasing right. Chances are wires 1 and 2 on the NEL are the transmit and 3 and 4 are the receive but I'm not sure.

Mel I thought the same thing on the 1 to red, 2 to Bl..etc.. but unfortunately the best way is like you said check with a meter...seems there are many combo's and in no order. Got this from a friend who is in the Loop.

Here are a few combo's he has experienced ...4213, 1243, 3214. The Best advice he could give was buying the one for the Sovereign then trim back the black covering on the 4 wires and one by one label yourself using the Pin out of the Sovereign 6 pin connector.

And now there is word from a friend in Poland his came with colored wires.. Jed... Thank You for the Pictures...These were made in Japan.. And not the Ukraine ..

I hope that Baja Vinnie has better luck than I did with the NEL coils on the Excalibur. I had a 12x8 Hunter coil that just simply could not handle the salt water regardless of the settings I used on the Excal. I believe some of the earlier NEL coils had this problem and they may have corrected it. Good luck Vinnie!

"THANK YOU" Mr. Mel Parker!! You are a gentleman and a scholar. All of your advice worked perfectly including your sticky on Phasing. May your scoop be filled with gold or platinum the rest of the season!! :detecting::thumbup:

No wonder I never find much when I hunt there! And here I thought it was because the beaches were sanded in ...

I dont think you are wrong about it be sanded........... doesnt help when they renurish either. Good Luck Mel......... im going to kick the sand out of coqino this morning. Its been a tough year so far down here we all got what Max calls the mumbles. But i know you, you will pull something to make the trip worth while..... GL.

One day, about twenty years ago, a friend of mine and I were detecting near where the old sugar barge is located. He spotted a seated dime laying right on top of the sand. It was about worn smooth but still a nice find.

The Mumbles? Is that when we walk down the beach Mumbling to ourselves and our detector about the lack of any results from out detector? Wondering "If I were a Gold Ring where the heck would I be Hiding?" Quietly chastising the Ocean for not moving the sand is such a manner as to give us an advantage.

Yep I think that could be classified as the Mumbles. Guilty As Charges.

Mel Parker metioned sticky on getting phasing correct, can anyone tell me where it is or how to do the phasing please
