Negative VDI's on PRO-XL

After years with my pro I'm still learning!Lately I've been on a ring/small jewelry quest. So far I've found 8 rings(including 1 10k mens,1 silver spinning,1 silver 126th red arrow infantry )in about 3 weeks. While detecting an inland beach infested with old square nails I got what I thought was an iron signal but when I looked at the vdi it came in just below 0 and locked.Unfortunitely, what my small ring target turned out to be was a small piece of aluminum shrapnel but it taught me that my detector would register negative vdi's.I have seen some posts on this forum and others from users wanting to zero their meters which would eliminate these readings.MY ADVICE-DON'T!!
