Ok what should I do . My headphones died on me when the wires broke inside the rubber coating. Radio shack is telling me they cannot be rewired .The break is about two inches above the plug. Any suggestions. I also dont wan't to buy new headphones just before christmas as money is tight.

You might check with Al at ProStock Detectors. Mike in MI probably has his phone number. I took a couple of head phones in and had new phone jacks put on. I would guess that if you don't mind the cord being shorter - at least 2 inches where the break is that Al could rewire the plug to the cord just above the break. DOn't think he charged me much to do the 2 headphones - I like you - didn't want to get rid of them (these were Garret headphones with a switch for mon/stereo and had adjustable volume for each ear). For me anyway I liked the option of replacing the plugs than buying another new pair.

I have repaired phone cords. I splice them - if they can be accessed. Even encased in rubber you might try to do them - if they dont work what do you have to lose? There's 2 or 3 colored wires. Steve in so az

Are they high end more expensive ones? If so many of them are warrented. Al at Pro Stock can fix them. I also have an extra set you can use till you get them taken care of!

And found that the red and green wires were both broken with the green wire broke 1/8 inch from the plug. So there is not enough room to splice the wires. I dont understand why the companies use such thin wire. My dental floss is thicker .
Thanks to all of you for the advice and help.
Mike I want to thank you for offering to loan me your spare headphones. That was very kind of you. I think I am going to wait untill the first of the year and buy a good set of headphones.since the weather is turning sour again, and I am not a cold weather hunter .
again thank you everyone

You are welcome to them if you need them. Also when you get ready to buy some let me know, I can recommend a good set, and a place to get them!
