I Need your opinion. I am looking for a detector that I can use a couple times a year on salt water beach but also use coin shooting or relic hunts. I already own some nice machines but want to add a minelab to the detectors I already have. So here are the machines I'm thinking of ...the explorer series XS -2 -SE or se pro AND then lastly sovereign XS or GT. ALSO what coil should i look for.- I would also like 2 waterproof it sometime. Please tell me your opinion
never done saltwater beaches but a popular guy "Max" uses an SE sometimes in his vids on ocean beaches along with an excalibur. Dont know how waterproof explorer coils are so Im hesitant to submerge mine. as far as silver coin shooting I dont believe the explorer series can be beat.
The Explorer is a great salt water machine , if you get the Pro coil fitted then its water proof . Earlier coils are water resistant only , some other after market coils are water proof but not the Ultimate , I think the Nell's are and some other Minelab and Coil tech coils but not sure which are.
The E.Trac is better than the Explorer in target info but mostly the same in capability.
The Sovereign's are great on the wet but not as good on target info and I don't like the tones either.
The Safari or older Quattro are lesser versions of the Explorer in the way of target info and settings but are the same in capability.
The older Sovereign xs and xs2 , Explorer xs and I think the Quattro are old models that are not repaired by Minelab now I think , the Explorer 11 and from the Sovereign Elite are .
If you can swing an ETrac get it. In my opinion the best of the ones you mentioned would be the SE. It's a killer machine on wet sand and dirt. For beaches get the largest coil you can handle. The 15" WOT coil is a great coil for the beach, but it's heavy. If you already have a good dirt machine and you want to save some money go for the Soverign with the WOT coil for you beach detecting. You really can't go wrong with any of the Explorers for the beach and dirt fishing but in my opinion, the ETrack in the hands of someone that knows it well will out perform any of the Explorers in trashy dirt spots.
I was told by one of the people that tested the ETrac before it came out to get one. I bought one as soon as it came out and I mean right out of the box with the standard programs and stock coil I was pulling old coins from spots that have been pounded by myself and others with explorers. Before I got my CTX if I had to get rid of all of my detectors except one I would have kept the ETrac. I was a manual sensitivity and wide open user guy. I couldn't belive I was using discrimination and auto sensitivity and pulling silver coins from places where I had to work for a couple of hours to get some deep silver. Most of the silver coins and wheats I was finding was mixed with trash.
