I am thinking of getting back into MD'ing, but don't want to make the mistake of getting a machine that I feel is not deep enough. Had a Tesoro Eldorado for a few years, learned it well, but felt like I missed a lot in prime hunting grounds due to it's shortcomings (lack of depth). Need your opinions about the E-trac compared with say a White's MXT or DFX or some of the other popular models of machines. Want a general use detector for deep coins (silver and gold) / jewelry, relics and some beach detecting. Is the E-trac worth the money over others? I don't mind stretching the budget if I won't be disappointed. I only want to buy ONE machine to be happy with for several years to come. Thank you!
This is a post from "Dig EM" on 4/23 about his thoughts on the E-Trac compared to the Whties DFX.
"I have been using a White's DFX for several years now and just went for the E-trac. After reading many reviews and comparing web sites and reading many, many fourm posts I decided on the E-trac. Should be delivered tomorrow and I can't wait!!"
I have not used the two Whites machines that you are trying to compare the E-Trac to. I have used the Whites M6 and thought is was a very good backup machine for my E-Trac. The only thing that I can tell you is the E-Trac will find coins at extreme depths and provides ID numbers through it's entire detecting range. It is very common for E-Trac users to find coins at 10+ inches. There was a recent post where someone found a memorial penny at 13 1/2 inches. It cannot be beat when it comes to coin hunting and will hold it's own on the beach and relic hunting. I've had mine on the beach numerous times over the last couple years and it preformed great. Very stable in the water and wet sand. I've dug targets at the beach in excess of 12 inches. With the ability to create your own modes/patterns and customize all of the user settings, it's versatility is hard to beat. .

David feel free to give me a call and pick my brain! I have tons of hours on an E-Trac and have been rewarded! It's truely one of if not the best! I can set you up right over the phone to have you finding stuff right out of the box! Very easy setup!
While it has a learning curve, it really isn't that bad. It does really well in the trash and the depth is very good in my soil. I've had coins sound off loud and clear at 9 to 10 inches and one time on the beach while hunting in pinpoint mode we dug a matchbox car from a measured 16". I've only got one spot that's rough on it and that's an old mineral springs site that drives all the machines we've tried there nuts! Even then I still got targets at 5 to 6 inches.
