A friend of mine found this and we have drawn a blank on determining what it is. There is nothing on the reverse side, is thinner than a coin and it the approximate size of a silver dollar. Any help would be appreciated. Richard

It sure looks like Gen. Grant. Pictures of him show the patch on his shoulder with 3 stars. Is the hole in the center drilled or does the back look like it may have been pried off of something else?

Richard, not certain. Maybe rough handling or poor manufacturing. Hard to tell from a pic.
If you do a search of Ulysses Grant buttons you should find complete examples of yours. Apparently there was some slogans and what not that went with it. Its still a very cool find.

After looking at Grant campaign buttons, not sure that's what this is. Pretty darn sure its Grant, just not a campaign button. The picture I uploaded says that the button has 1868 on the back and the phrase
"I propose to fight it out on this line."
