Need your guys opinion!!!!

Well guys I have the stock coil and the 6" I want your opinions on the 17" I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on one and I'd like to hear how you other guys are doing with it and if its worth the 400$! Also if any of you have one used your getting rid of PM me!! So lets kick off this thread!!!!!here we go.....semper FIDELIS

I do not have the 17" for my CTX, but I have use a 17" coil. Great for hunting big areas, but it should be a trash free area. Heavier. More depth. For the areas I hunt it was no help. I like my 6" coil for working the trashy places I detect, and the standard coil works fine for me every where else. IMHO it will depend on where you detect, and what you are looking for.

Yes, like Bob says if your working the beach or big open fields like I do and have to cover long distance areas it's a must. I've gone a hundred yards before I would get a target, so it's a must for my app. It will hear very small targets. The ctx 3030 has such good discrimination I even use mine in trashy areas and still get many good finds. I have a place on the beach in the wet sand I have used the six inch because there are some many nails and larger chunks of iron, I did better with my 17" because it goes much deeper where the old silver coins are. If you can afford it, it's a great tool for you to use. Good luck what ever you decide to do, Gene

I have the 17" and love it, I use it as a clean up tool after I have searched a property with the stock and picked out the good targets. It surprises me what you find with the 17 when you go over an area you thought you searched well. Case in point, went yesterday to a mid 1800's property I have searched three times prior. Found 10 wheat's and 6 Indian's, I have never found an Indian there in the other hunts and all coins came from the front yard that I searched before. I really like the overlap and the large size will slow your swing speed. If you are pressed for time and want to cover some ground or you are trying to get the feel of a new property slap on the 17. You won't be disappointed with the purchase.

I'd be interested to know the weight difference between the two.

Howard, I just weighed all three of my CTX coils on my postal scale. The results: 6" coil = 16.3 oz., 11" coil = 22.1 oz., and the 17" coil = 32.2 oz

Thanks guys for your advice I think I'm gonna go ahead and pull the trigger!
