I am not new to White's detectors I had one of the first DFX detectors and used it for a few years. I now have the White's XL Pro 6000 and a few other brands but I was wondering about the MXTI have head it is as good as the T2 and I have heard that it works best with the DD coil.

I have read that it is not a great coin detector but is top notch for relic hunting. I have read your forum and see a lot of mixed finds. I use a compass that is very fast you can here all the targets the coil passes over and it finds very small targets. It is an old machine and is in the shop being fixed so I am looking for a backup!

I would use it more for fields and old lots any input would be great. I guess the new White's (M6) didn't com close to being anything like the MXT or the DFX!

I have compared my mxt with 9x6 coil with paul's old T-2.
The mxt was able to do everything Paul's T-2 did. Paul said the T-2
has a small edge on the mxt with the 9x6. I haven't seen it yet.
But I did observe that the mxt was more sensitive toward smaller targets. The mxt makes a fantastic Relic machine. The mxt can excel depending on the user..
I wished I had a DFX to compare.

Thanks I am going to detect with paul this winter I want to be ready for anything.

Paul is a super good dude. Enjoyable to hunt with.
I am trying to get him to take me to this place down
in Kern County:jump:

Well I read aboutt that I think he likes it when it cools off and we get a little moisture in the ground. I am going to keep my eye open for a used MXT if it comes that close to Paul liking it then maybe it is the way to go.

Hello amigos,

Lawrenzo, My friend Jim has an extra MXT and may consider selling it for a good price. I'll ask him what he'll take for the unit, I'm sure he'll cut you a good deal much lower than the classifies.

Boxtopp, Remember that particular site you mentioned is confidential :nono: Maybe you & Mickey and Art can carpool with me when I head up North to hunt with Lawrenzo, Stockton area is rich with old coins and relics.

See you guys soon, It's getting cooler :)

Sometimes I wish my MXT wasn't so keen on tiny little objects LOL. Especially when you hit a target at 10" and dig it up and it is sooooo tiny it's hard to find in the dirt pile. Today I got a target that was 10 inches and about the size of a match head. Of course if it were gold nuggets I would not complain ;-)).

Hello dirtdigginglady,

You're not kidding, The MXT can sure hit on the tiny objects fooling the user thinking it was a deep coin or larger object. Pros and cons to this with the extra sensitivity, The positive side is now the MXT can peek between the cracks of iron capturing finds missed by others. The extra sensitivity does help in areas such as these but will fool us sometimes :)

You using a DD coil?

HH, Paul (Ca)

Yep I had the White's smallest DD coil on. I love that coil because it can really separate targets when you find several close together.

I have been pretty happy with the M6. It is my first detector, but using the DD coil on it I have found a 1903 Barber Half and a modified 1847 large cent the last two outings with Paul.

I wish it did have the 2 tone mode like the mxt and T2 though, but the tone ID mode it has and the mxt dosent is great for parks.

Just my 2 cents,
Steven

Lawrenzo,

Just thought I'd add my thoughts while I stopped back for a lunch break. Back out with the M6, Classic III and ??? after I eat.

"I am not new to White's detectors I had one of the first DFX detectors and used it for a few years."... Curious, what did you like and not like about the DFX?

"I now have the White's XL Pro 6000 and a few other brands but I was wondering about the MXT."... Which other models do you have? We know the XL Pro is a tough act to follow, in it's class.

As for the MXT, I have owned three and used others, and I own a Matrix M6 and used several before I decided to buy one for myself. I've used an assortment of coils on them and perhaps I can help.

"I have head it is as good as the T2 and I have heard that it works best with the DD coil."... I have little time in with the T2. I haven't had the opportunity to try a revised, revised, or revised version, but I wasn't impressed early on.

For one thing, you state that you heard the MXT works best with a DD coil. That points out the fact that the MXT has available several search coil options. Not so with the T2, and that's an advantage in favor of the MXT, M6 and most other White's models (except the Prizm series, etc.).

The MXT & M6 can do well with a DD coil, but any detector/coil selection should be made based upon the type of site(s) hunted and the type(s) of targets you're after.

I tend to hunt trashier sites most often and my personal pick is the 5.3 Eclipse (6

Hello Lawrenzo,

I agree with Monte and Steven "wheresthegoodstuff," The M-6 is a super good detector to use for most hunting conditions. It's not fair to say the M-6 is not as good as the MXT, Both have the same depth, same recovery speed, same performance, same kHz and handle high mineralization soil well when using the DD coil.

When Steven first told me he had purchased an M-6 from our local dealer he asked me if this was a good detector and did he make a mistake in buying the M-6, I assured Steven the M-6 was enough detector he needed for several years to come. I knew it was like an MXT only striped down and with user friendly features, Plus I knew it would shine best for relic hunting which was a type of hunting I was wanting Steven to venture into.

I mentioned the first M-6 extras he'd need was the 6X10" DD coil which would give him the separation needed and faster recovery speed for the extremely trashy sites and higher mineralization soil, He did buy the DD coil and has made some remarkable finds on our last two trips out.

I'm not an concentric coil user anymore even with the smaller coils, DD coils "both large and small" are the only coils I will use. I see the difference between a DD and concentric, DD coils enhance most detectors recover speed and improve separation. Plus, DD coils reduce masking because of the faster recovery speed.

I may get clobbered on this but the proof is in the pudding, DD is the future.

Thanks very well said I think the MXT sounds more like my cup of tea.

Thanks Paul would really love to try a MXT and a DD coil!
