need Whites input for Arizona use - M6/DFX/GMT/MXT

Hi All,

I'm a MD newbie but technically savvy - going to use it in central & northern arizona... i want to look for gold, jewelry, coins in that order.. decided I would be best to get 1 unit for gold, and a 2nd unit for a friend that does jewelry/coins...

I'm gonna post a similar message to the all-purpose/general forum with a request for more input on other models but I'll stay specific to the Whites models I've narrowed it down to here... a few questions:

1. I'm thinking a Whites GMT for my nugget finder... but I heard for Arizona soil it would be better to get a MXT - any input on this?
2. If i want a nugget finder only in one machine - in arizona - and I only care about ones bigger than a BB... MXT or GMT suggested?
3. related to the above - which one will find a like dime or nickel sized nuggets DEEPER?

For my coin/jewelry machine I'm thinking M6 or DFX
1. Between M6/DFX - will they both find gold/silver jewelry at the same depth?
2. if I get a Whites GMT for gold and want a friend to use the M6 or DFX - will they both be safe from interference if within 40 feet?

Thanks for the input!

The MXT is the only one to do all you want very well. Check with the MXT Forum for more info on nugget hunting. The GMT is pretty much a single use detector, nuggets and the M6 and DFX are not very good at nugget hunting, but very good at coins and jewelry.

I would suggest getting the standard MXT with the 6X10 DD.

I have done a lot of nugget hunting in AZ and I have owned 4 MXT's, rigged with every kinda coil combo you can use. They are a great machine and do not have a steep learning curve, you will have to use a DD coil. The price of gold is at an all time high and you will want to do some research to see if the land you want to hunt has a claim. Gold fever has people acting a little crazy and they will not be happy with strangers swinging a coil over their claimed soil.

If you want to get real serious about nugget hunting, you will have to move up the food chain to a Pulse Induction machine, there are areas in the Bradshaws that any VLF detector will not work, they will sound off everytime you lower the coil to the ground.
