NEED WEST COAST SET UP!

GULDDIGGER

New member
I HAVE RECENTLY PURCHASED A EXP2, MOVING UP FROM AN OLDER SOVERIGN. I LIVE IN AZ NOW AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE IS A CERTAIN SET-UP FOR THE BEACH HUNTING IN CA. I USED TO GO BEFORE WORK AND KNEW THE SET UP. BUT WITH THE EXPLORER I`M AT A LOSE TO SET IT UP FOR THE BEACH. COULD SOMEONE SHED SOME LIGHT FOR ME? THANK YOU! ALL HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

This is what works for me at the salt water beaches in Southern California.

FERROUS mode with a wide open screen and dig everything that is not a very low pitched "growl".
SENSITIVITY at 25 manual
VOLUME GAIN at 7
VOLUME MAX LIMIT at 8
TONE VARIABILITY at max
TONE LIMITS at max
TONE THRESHOLD at 1
DEEP on
FAST off

I pretty much setup my explorer the same as Captain Kirk.

My Setup:

FERROUS mode with a wide open screen and dig everything that is not a very low pitched "growl". Be aware that some deep non-ferrous targets in the wet sand will give you that iron growl. Watch the depth gauge and if the meter goes down below the "N" remove some sand and recheck the tone.

SENSITIVITY at 27 manual in the dry sand. In the wet sand I run auto 27.

VOLUME GAIN at 7 or 8

VOLUME at Max

TONE VARIABILITY at max

TONE LIMITS at max

TONE THRESHOLD (barely audible)

DEEP on

Get the Sunray 12.5" coil. It's lighter and in my opinion it's more sensitive than the WOT coil.

FAST off

THANKS CAPTAIN KIRK AND RANDYNORTHRIDGE, I DO APPRECIATE THE INFO., I WILL BE TRYING THOSE SET-UPS AT THE END OF JULY. I WILL LET YOU KNOW IF I DO GOOD AND IF I MAKE ANY CHANGES. MAY YOUR COIL PASS OVER GOLD(AND YOU HEAR IT).
THANKS AGAIN

I plan to be there myself sometime in July. I retired from the work force in December 2002 and moved from Lake Forest to Salt Lake City to be closer to most of my grandkids. I bought the Explorer II in November 2003 and am still in the process of moving up the learning curve. So, be cautious about using any advice that I give you.

When visiting family in Southern California, I mostly hunt the wet sand in Huntington Beach, San Clemente and Oceanside. While living in Southern California I hunted the beaches with many different types of detectors (White's XLT and older Garretts and older Fishers). My personal experience has been that the Explorer II is much better on the beach (and everywhere elsewhere else for that matter) than the other detectors I have used. You should be able to pull out dimes in the 10 to 12 inch range in the wet sand.

HH,
Glenn

USED TO HUNT THEM BEFORE WORK ALL THE TIME, TIL I MOVED TO AZ. A YEAR AGO. USED TO USE A SOVERIGN XS2APRO W/WOT. I DID VERY WELL! SOLD THE SOV. TO GET BETTER DISC HERE IN AZ DUE TO THE HARD GROUND, DON`T WANT TO DIG TOO DEEP FOR JUNK IF I CAN HELP IT!

THANKS FOR THE HELP GUYS! I ONLY FOUND FOUR SILVER RINGS. TIDE WAS WRONG TO GET OUT FAR ENOUGH. HAD A LOT OF FUN AND PAID FOR THE PARKING.
