Need water detector help!

Guys, I was given firsthand info that could possibly lead to recovery of a gold ring with jewels worth more than my truck! It was dropped from a dock in a nearby freshwater lake, and the owner of the place said it was never recovered! I have a buddy who is a master diver, so that gear is pretty much covered, but the only water detector we have is his Cobra. I'd like advice on any older detectors that I might be able to find that would work for this endeavor as well as pulling beach duty sometime when I can finally afford to go to the coast? My finances are pretty thin right now.. I have thought of converting my xterra for water, but just can't bring myself to do it! Otherwise I'm looking at buying cheap or trading other types of gear for a detector.

The ring was lost several years ago and the bottom is large rocks and silt, so we definitely have some work ahead!

A lot depends on the depth you will be at

You need to see if someone with a waterproof detector that lives close to you will give you a hand, if its off a dock I wouldn't think the water would be but so deep, remember what its worth retail is alot different than what you can get for it, good luck

Water is appx. 15' deep right now. The value of the ring, retail or not would be high enough to warrant a search! It won't be an easy search for sure, but we have to dive first to see..as long as we're checking the place out, we might as well look! How many times we have to go back might make us question whether it's worth it or not.

get a used excal 8", use the short diving shaft.
Good luck hunting.

an excalibur 2 will do just fine...
keep an eye on the used forum here..
wheres this lake at?? you can private pm me for that one if you like?

I think I need to do some research!! I don't doubt the Excal would be top dog..just don't know that I could swing it without selling one of my prized possessions or something! The lake is is North Texas, the area has sandy soil, so mineralization MIGHT be an issue, hard to say for sure.

...Or is that only a concern when hunting SALTwater? Water hunting is very new to me!
