Need token help

7centsworth

Well-known member
I found this token last friday it is the same size as a nickel. It is exactly alike on both sides . Any help will be appreciated .

That is a "TRADE TOKEN", they were used in the late 1800's and early 1900's by merchants. They were given to customers as a form of advertising and when the customer came back in they were good for a certain amount in trade, usually less than 5 cents. Hope that helps

Smith's General Store.....

How about a location of find, then a little local research as to what was nearby. Remembering Tokens be protable so it could be a long ways from home...

Kentucky about 10 miles from Abraham Lincoln birthplace. Used to be a saloon near by in early 1900s . I have located the saloon within a few hundred yards . Know one can tell me the name of the saloon though.
