Need to make CTX for taller people

recout

With all the hype with the 3030 I went to my local Minelab dealer to look and maybe to buy a new 3030. But when I tried it out it was to short for me. I'm 6'7 and the 3030 was way to short for me. I know I am not the only person that has this problem. I would guess people around 6'3 and taller need a longer shaft.
I currently use a GT that a was able to use a white's tall man shaft on but had to take off the bottom part that the coil bolts to from the whites and put on the stock one from the GT shaft so it would fit my coils. The excal is a behind the elbow mount that I made extra long for me.
I looked at maybe making a longer lower shaft for the 3030 but I would need to find someone who does carbon fiber, and then would need to make a longer coil wire.
I would like to see at least 6in longer shaft and coil wire before I would buy one.

I have done many cables and a few Carbon Fibers but You may want to contact Minelabs themselves on that for a custom made. Being a machine that is still in the early stages, I Myself would be reluctant on doing any custom work, coil at 300.oo and the Carbon shaft at 175.oo. If one did make a longer shaft will the coiled wire extended the needed length without any modifications? Extending the shaft should not be that hard..

I'm 6'3" and I have it extended out all the way and it is comfortable for me to use, so I can imagine anyone taller would have a problem. It is hard for me to think Minelab would manufacture a tall man's rod for the few customers that could use one and if they did, just think what the price would be......:ranting:

My guess would be that with a 6" longer shaft you would need to extend the cable 6" at least or you could not hook up the coil cable without some means of pulling the cable Thur that extra 6". Close fit as is.

I heard that some people are having issues with the coil wire going into the shaft by the coil now. Think it was with the shaft fully extended the wire is tight and when the coil moves (toe, heal of coil goes up and down) it is pulling the wire and some people have damaged the wire. So they almost need to make the coil wire a few inches longer just not to have to much strain on the connection on the coil. plus all the other issues people are having I might wait anyway even if they come out with one.
I all ready have a GT with a WOT and Excal for the beach, and 705(never used it yet, get it for dirt hunting that I have not gotten around to yet) I was thinking it would be nice to have a water proof machine that I can change coils on and use on beach and dirt etc.....
I might just send you my excal in the off season so you can make some mods for me, New headphones, and connections so I can change the coils out.

I am 6 foot1 and the shaft is only just long enough , my brother takes a size 16 shoe and he cannot find shoes in the shops , , I feel sorry for you guys with much more than average height etc.. I have a detector that is made by c scope and that is too short for me.
Mr average is well catered for.

I have a CTX in the works for this fall, (have to stay focused on the excal for the summer) Once I get hold of it in time I'm sure I can do the shaft mode and the coil mod with no problem but it would take some time to test and make sure the coil extension cable does not affect performance, and is 100% water proof.

That sounds good, and thanks for waiting, by summers end I should know how the coil change endcap holds up. Tell you that is the best thing for the Excalibur ..being able to swap coils....so far 14 hours under and she works perfect...only issues so far is keeping the fitting clean of sand when changing out coils, like the CTX battery.

Yeah.... I'm 6'4 and I extend the lower shaft all the way out. Most of the time I feel it should be a few inches longer. Maybe Minelab will come out with a longer lower and a better coil wire configuration.

I automatically extend the shaft all the way out until it stops. I am only 6' so it fits me. But on the beach and open field areas I like to take larger swings. The cord on the coils barely gets through the shaft now. I guess I could stretch it another couple inches. It really baffles my mind why ergonomics is not a priority with detector design. The one thing I have wrong on me is my bad back. If I had to bend to swing a detector I could not do it for long. Thank goodness the CTX just barely meets my requirements.

Seems to me I read somewhere, perhaps on here, some months back something to the effect that Minelab HAD made a shaft for taller people for the 3030, wish I could remember exactly where to provide a link, I'll look around and see what I can find. I'm only 6'0 tall and felt that mine was a tad short.

I don't how anyone over 6' can swing the CTX all day. I am a short guy and I have it extended almost to the full length. I feel for all you big guys. If they had a longer shaft, you would most likely need to buy longer cables. If you stretched the stander cable any longer I think you would be asking for trouble if you wanted to change coils.

Hope things get worked out for you
I had the opposite problems with detectors
could not get them short enough :detecting:

I am 4feet 10.5 inches (and seemingly shrinking, I used to be 4feet 11.5inches)

Regards and HH
