Hi and hope someone out there can help with identifying and maybe giving an idea dating this pendant/medal.

I have cleaned it a little more since the pics to try and identify the writing but really don

Oh and forgot to mention, it came out of the bank of a dried up river which adjoins farm land in Southern Spain

Maybe the JHS is IHS ,iota-eta-sigma Greek name for jesus.

I think you may be right, had another close look and it may read IHS
