Need Tips On Keeping Coil Cover In Place?

Prospector

New member
Just got a new coil cover for my 5.75 coil and it fits so loose it will not stay on. I thought it was supposed to snap on, but it does't fit very well. My question is this, is the cover a little too big, or perhaps the coil too small? What would be the best way to keep it on?

you should put marine epoxy on the coil and then spray on bedliner. see this forum.

Works great and you can stop worrying about the cover.the beach hunter group has been doing it for years and it works.

I've had coils go out on me.

I had the bracket break.

But I never got a broken or cracked coil casing.

Unless your a beach hunter or just hard on a coil,

the only reason I can see for having one is to keep

it looking nicer. But it gets dirty you may and risk

breaking your coil getting the dang thing off.

The 8X9 coil needs one because it doesn't have a

bottom.

But don't want one on my 5.75.

It makes a pretty good frisbee though.

Prospector , Ive had a couple of covers fitting very loose at first it will only take a hunt or 2 and you'll be curse'n tryin to get if off as grit will lock it on for ya as good as glue  for that reason if you dont need the cover dont use it as they can be very hard to remove ,I need to as the harsh country here carves em up in no time no matter how carefull you are

I use one for mostly resale value. Eventually, I sell off every detector I own. It is a selling point with many buyers that you have a cover on the coil. SO for the most part I use one. I would not goop on epoxy and truck bed liner, however, again based on resale needs.

An alternative would be to adhere it with a few dabs of silicone RTV adhesive, evenly spaced around the cover's sides. Just use enough to keep it on.
Or you could put it on in such a way that you seal the cover with it completely. That way no dirt can get between the cover and the coil.

Whatever, you do. be thankful you have a loose cover, in fact. Sometimes, they can be a real challenge to get off if they are tight!

And so, as they say - there you go. Nice and simple.
