Need Some Tips

I am thinking of adding a "Sovereign/Excal Tips & Tricks" page to my site, similar to the one I have for the V3i and the DFX. I am looking for some good tips from the pros to publish on the page.

Here is my own contribution to get things started: When hunting in Pinpoint (All Metal) mode on the Excalibur, it is fairly easy to tell iron from diggable targets by their sound. Iron makes a "Yippee" sound, while good targets make a "zip" sound as the coil is passed over. To confirm the probable ID of what you have found, switch to Discriminate mode.

Thanks for all of your input!

Ive heard this very same thing and it seems to be more perception than reality. Now in theory this might technically be true as when running in discrimination the detector is using a portion of its power to perform the discrimination which takes that away from putting it in the ground but in reality that difference is so minimal no one would see a difference outside of a lab with high end instruments. Plus, Ive never been able to duplicate it through testing It never found a target in Pin Point that I havent found in Discriminate.

Also, from a personal level, as An excel user I dont understand why someone would want to hunt in pin point as thats all metal and I for one dont want to waste my time digging junk when I could be finding good targets.

IMHO since you are so knowledgeable about the excal maybe you should apply for a position in their R & D department and enlighten them with your expertise

I have first hand experience that running in AM in certain areas with hot rocks and large amounts of mineralization. My tip is would be if there is an area being hunted whereby falsing or nulling in discrimination mode seems excessive, try to hunt in AM. I was finding dimes yesterday in AM mode that were only 2-3" in riverbank cobble that would barely even sound off in discrimination mode. I double checked all of these signals in both modes and was very surprised that I had missed these the 3 previous outings to this location because I had been using discrimination.

Although Neil, sorry, I am NOT a pro...so maybe disregard my tip.....
