I have a explorer se which I have had over a year now.Mostly use the sunray x 8 coil and love it.I have some parks w/ some pretty deep targets.I don't like the se slimline coil as mine seems to erratic.I was thinking about the sun ray x12.Was also thinking about a exp. II coil if I can find one. What coils do you guys use that goes deep?

First off you should contact Minelab and have them check out your coil. Maybe you can get it replaced. I have the SR x12. I have not used it with the SE yet but it worked great with the XS and II. It is very stable and lightweight (less than the old standard coil I think). I am like you... hooked on the weight and performance of the SR x8. I almost put on the slimline coil last weekend. Last time I used the slimline it was at a beach and yes it did act a bit flaky around the waters edge. What is up with ML putting out a coil like this?

PS I also have a big urge to try my Explorer II again, now that I have used the SE for a year. I have my suspicions that the SE falses off of iron more than the II. That was the one thing that made me get the SE... the advertised "handles iron better" claim. Do you have any opinion on this?

I like the Sunray. I use it mostly to cover larger trash free areas with good results. Even with it's larger size it runs smooth and can find tiny targets. I recently used my stock coil just because I haden't used it in a bit. I soon realized how much lighter and easier the Sunray was to use. I bought mine used here on the forum, most of the guys here offer good deals knowing it's going to a brother detectorist.
