Hi Elton, I have had my Tejon for 3 weeks, I got it in a trade from a guy that bought it new 4 years ago and he liked to hunt, this Tejon is used but not abused, it has been taken care of. I was told by the original owner, that this Tejon ran hot and after using it on a couple of hunts, I would say the man was right.
First off let me say that I have used a lot of different brand metal detectors and a bunch of Tesoros, I did have a Vaquero for awhile and it was a nice detector, but for me the retune speed was a little to fast and there is no way to slow it down. I like the Tejon because it operates at a slow retune speed, until you pull the trigger to pinpoint and then it goes into a fast retune speed in all metal mode. I also like the dual disc feature, I set disc 1 for nickels and disc 2 to just break up a pull tab.
The first time I took my Tejon out for a serious hunt, I balance it out to a nice smooth threshold hum, set it in disc mode and started sweeping the coil over the soil, everything was running great, I was getting a nice clear hit every now and then and all of the sudden I started hearing tic's, pop's, and all kinds of noise. I switched to all metal and sure enough I was a heavy trash area, so I switched back to disc mode and slowed down my sweep speed and concentratede on the audio, I found a lot of nice coins, my best find at this spot was a 1947 merc, here is a pic, notice the rusty nail stain accross the top.
