need some opinions on a detector?

Hey guys hope things are going well... I'm looking into the viper trident detector and was curious if my experienced peers here would have any opinions on its quality vs its price, and next is on factory refurbished detectors. Thanks again guys HH :)

Only my opinion, Don't buy it. If you want to water hunt there are much better quality detectors. The cost is higher, Excal, BHID, OR OTHER NAME BRANDS

Cheap and garbage come to mine. Very little discrimintion. You get what you pay for.

Like the guys are saying save your money
and buy a brand name one and you'll be happier
with that decision.

Don't buy the Viper Trident. Never heard anything good about them. Heard plenty of bad though ! For around three hundred bucks , you can find a used Whites "surfmaster" on ebay. For around $400-500 bucks , you could get a used Garrett "SeaHunter Mark II". Pay a little more and you could get the Whites "Dualfield". ( Those are all pulse induction machines , where you basically just dig every tone you hear ) . Or , pay a little more and get the Whites "Beach Hunter ID" , a Tesoro "Tiger or Sand Shark" , or just drop around $1,300.00 and buy a new Minelab "Excalibur II" . This is deffinately one of those times where you get what you pay for. But , a few nice gold rings could pay for your machine ! Make sure you buy a long handled sand scoop !

Good Luck and Happy Hunting !

Wow thanks for the info guys, I'm gonna throw another one at you guys and if you can give me some more info I would be grateful. I'm also looking at a used fisher 1280x with some accessories for 400 bucks and that's shipped. Any thoughts? Thanks again and HH

Does it have the 8 or 10.5 inch coil? 10 .5 is better IMHO. You can cover more ground and it gets deeper they say BUT I really don't remember. Its a solid machine made by a solid company. If you have the money. That is a WAY better choice.

Take a look at the Detector Pros.... some say its a water proof 1280X. Cheaper and easier to swing. Next factor..... fresh or salt water? Also ive found shopping around will save you money. If its not trashy ..... best for the money is a PI.... but you may not want to dig that much. On my beach its quiet.

I bought in to the concept that you start cheap to see if you liked MDing enough to stick with it, then buy- you will know better what you want/need and can make a better buy. If you quit, you can't lose that much cuz you didn't invest that much.
Now having just bought my 7th detector in 10 months, I am looking back and seeing that I have spent twice what a top MD costs and could open a rental business for tourists. I really have no complaints, I have 3 really good MDs and can use them fairly well. But I think better of telling a noob to 'measure twice, cut once' study, think and buy a better MD that fits their interests. They will have a better experience (if they get some help) and better results and be more likely to stick with it and if they don't it will be easier to sell a better MD.
Any thoughts?
Tom
PS I am not trying to hijack- I think its related. :wiggle:

Yet again thanks for the info! ok what about the white beach hunter Id for 350 used? or the whites amphibian surf 2? any thoughts. And tom your hijacking doesnt bother me and i also feel your comment does apply here, I just recently picked up a cheapy water detector, and am now looking into a decent water detector at a good value. thats why im using my ever so generous peers her to try and get some info, there expirience in this field is extremly valuable and im trying my best to soak it all in to my little brain :D so if any one can provide info for any of these detectors it would be greatly appreciated. also if it helps for some more detail I do most of my detecting in the Chesapeake bay and the tidal rivers. Thanks again as always

as a diver I hated trying to push the coil down all the time. I was always wondering WHY they made the coil bouyant!! Its a good machine with good depth. I believe its a waterproof White's DFX. Fisher gets deep and one tone. I believe the BHID is also one tone BUT you have lights to give you a better idea of what you have your coil over.

RN88..best detector for this area, the bay is the CZ20/21 series.....1280 might work in the bay but has a set/fixed ground balance so using it at OC would be a challenge with the saltwater sand and the surf. .Down the road on the scoops,... I would highly recommend a Miller Scoop or a Hoop scoop, if not that then A Reilly's SS model with a grab handle about midways......the mud and clay are a bear and will fatigue the best of them....One more is you will need a good sifter........lots of shells, mud/clay..
Good Luck..................Joe

Couple of the Beach's north of us won't let anyone into the water..think it was around north point........gunpowder, and Miami..Had a sewage run off giving us HIGH BACTERIA be careful if you head out....

Thanks Mr beechnut I was lookin at the cz class detectors and the excals they are just a bit expensive and hard to find used. And as for the scoop I will most definitely check them out... any ideas on a good softer, my niece and nephews plastic one ain't cuttin it, I've also been using an old divers bag thinkin I might tie some float noodles to it....

I've been thinkin about makin one myself but that won't do me any good till I get a scoop. And thanks for the vid :)

Ok guys i think ive made up my mind down to 2 possible choices, and i would ask an honest opinion on both from any one on these point.... 1. ease of use/ ease to learn, 2. fatigue/ weight wear, 3. target identification/ discrimination, 4. Depth capabilities, 5 Possibilities in finding one used for a good price not 1299..... lol any ones 2 cents on these detectors would be appreciated . Thanks again as always rocknut88 the Noob!
