Need some inland water advice

Gonehunting

Ok I have a really good detector, but I am wanting one I can put in that water and scuba with in rivers and lakes, and is good on lake beaches. I probably will not be going to salt water. So I have around 600 to 700 to spend. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Garretts AT Pro seems to fit all your needs, Check out the AT Pro Forum for allot of input.

thanks for the input but I will diving deeper than the 10ft max. If it would go over 30 I would be safe. Thanks

Tesoro Tiger shark. Very sensitive to small gold and lift time warranty. JMO I use a CZ 20
I am strongly leaning toward the tigershark. I was hoping some whites and fisher users would chime in too....

I have the CZ20 and it's gets great depth, BUT not good on small gold and chains you might as well forget. I have a friend selling a barely used Fisher 1280x. He never had it in the water and only used it about 5 or 6 times. I never used a 1280x so I don't know how good it is.I had a Tiger shark years ago and sold it only because you had to open the unit to change the sens. I didn't like that, but boy was it hot on SMALL gold and chains. JMO

Here's an update. I had weighed all input from here and a couple of other forums and some beach hounds I know. I had decided on the tesoro tigershark, because of the sensitivity to the smaller stuff, the depth rating and the lifetime warranty. But, recent events from Tesoro's manufacturer has changed my mind. I found out that the new Tigershark's are coming with the coil being hardwired and you cannot change it. So, with that being said I sold my backup detector and have chosen the Excalibur II. I was really wanting the TS but with the thought of being stuck with one coil doesn't help. I was hoping that the rumors about the hardwired coil was false. Sorry Tesoro. :(

First off let me say I am in no way knocking the Excalibur ll as I own one and love it, but you aren't gaining anything where the hard wiring in the loop is concerned as the Excalibur ll is also hard wired and so are the head phones, and both have to be sent back to the factory for any mods. I don't know for sure about the loops but Minelab no longer does mods on the headphones. Another point to be made here is the Excalibur has a one year warranty. Check with Minelab (1-888-949-6522) about the loop changes since you are basing your decision on that point of view.

Ok that I didn't know. I guess what I need to ask is which machine would be better, for hunting fresh water Lake beaches and snorkling in fresh water lakes and rivers? I have enough money for either one. Any help from experienced users would be great!

I've been eyeing the TS also but the Excal is great in fresh water I own one and love it. I like that the Excal nulls on iron but you can still hear a good target if it's with the iron. I have had this happen scooped a gold ring with a nail.
Good luck with what ever you choose.

I have both and if you are not hunting the salt water beach go with the tiger shark they are good machines.Great customer service and lifetime warrenty and will get any gold in fresh water. You can set the discriminate to pass on the iron but I dig it all unless its really trashy. Iron can mask deeper gold ihave had it happen. For your situation isay tigershark 8" coil iswwwwhat I

Thanks guys anymore experienced waterdogs with both of these machines?

Well come Monday or tues I am ordering a detector. I sold all my scrap silver coins from sept 2010 till now and made a cool $255.00 and that puts me over the top for the most expensive water detectors.... :)

if your just hunting freshwater and doing some diving get a detector thats rated for diving the xcal,cz21,and garrett all have proven to be top of the line,nd as for chains good luck the chains are hard to find with any detector we have all found a few here and there as the more you swing the detector the better chance you have of finding one(the same gos with gold, silver and plat rings)the detector wont find it if its not over . Now back to the detector get the best one you can afford to even if it did'nt come with a lifetime warn. if you hunt most weekends for 4 to 6 hours or more in a summer 4 or more months worth of detecting should get you enough cash/gold to upgrade i used and still us an I.D.Edge wadeing and find just as much with it as i do with my cz21 the first month i had it it payed for itself twice with what i found and it was better at small gold rings too (found a baby ring smaller then a dime and about as thick less then 1 1/2 grams of gold) i have heard that the tiger shark will find small gold too but i would still go with one of the above detectors my own opinion as for the coils 8 or 10 inch works well in freshwater

I appreciate all the help and info. I have talked to a several of you and decided on the Excalibur II. I had to deposit the money today and it will be available in the morning... So by friday or saturday I should be assembling a new Excal... Thanks again. Evan
