Need Some Info on Rehoboth Beach, Delaware

We are going to take a week off for Spring Break and go to Rehoboth Beach for a week in March. How are the beaches up there and are there any special restrictions? I heard there were a few nice beaches not far away that had some good coin finds at one time or another. Mom will shop, I will detect.

Thanks!

The notorious "Coin Beach" is the area north of Indian River Inlet which is just south of Rehobeth. I have found three of the Irish Harp Cents there which I believe were late 1700 off of a payroll shipwreck in Delaware Bay. I will be in Ocean City from 19th to 23rd for a conference. If I find time and beach is cut I might see you there.

Yes, "coin beach" is close by. I was there just after (within hours) hurricane Ivan passed through a few years ago, but did not find any copper pennies. There were about a dozen or more other detectorists in the area. There are no restrictions that I am aware of at Rehoboth. I have been there as well. You may want to check before you hunt.

We visited Rehoboth beach in November 2005. It wasn't bad. The surf was really rough at the time so water hunting was difficult and close to impossible. We did manage to recover some change. There is a state park just south of Rehoboth that is off limits. I can't remember the name but surf fishing is very active on it.

We did see AL LOT of same sex couples while we were there so I reccomend you don't wear your uniform... somone may think your one of the Villiage People...

Good luck on your venture...

When did the state park become off limits? I remember asking the authorites about detecting and it was OK, but this was some time ago.

Don't tell anyone but "almost every park", state or local county/city, has this same regulation. By the way, it was Deleware Seashore Park and Fenwick Island.

Below is an excerpt from Deleware State Park Authority site: http://www.dnrec.state.de.us/parks/know/rules/rulemenu.htm

3.1.6
Use of metal detectors on lands under the jurisdiction of the Division shall be prohibited except during normal park hours in the following areas:
3.1.6.1
Lums Pond State Park swimming area beach;
3.1.6.2
Ocean beaches east of the dune line.

Pay CLOSE attention to the last line because that pretty much means you can hunt the entire coast but not the BAY- not ever!
