Need Some Info on Hot Rocks

I have a few hot rocks here but nothing like what is the in West where a lnumber of folks hunt for gold. How will the 25 khz Gold respond to ground that has a lot of hot rocks at varying depths... the 30 khz ? Thanks Richard

Had a vista gold hot rocks in my soil sounded good. Traded detector, later saw a video where operator ground balanced gold to the hot rock eliminating problem. For what it's worth it would be worth a try.

It's a tough one with hotrocks, they tend to give a scratchy signal what I find but so can many thin sectioned metals at depth, also depending on size they can give the same response as a good target, being the land I dig in is quick and easy at the moment I take near all signals bar clear iron but I know this is not ideal for all.
I was speaking to a User a few weeks back and he said he can ID them pretty well, I will send him a message and ask if he's willing to spill the beans on his findings and ground conditions.

[size=large]We don't have a lot of hot rocks here and it is hard to be specific when answering a question for hunters in the Southwest.
Here, hot rocks, tend to be a softer sound without any real edge definition... if that makes sense.. I just can't apply that info
to another area that I am not familiar with. Richard

So far all the rocks I've hit on in my soil have read iron tone on the 30Khz and 25Khz vistas..

It has a lot to do with how hot your surrounding soil is...I balance out on GB on Gain model at about 2 o'clock..most of the time here my rocks low tone..

If the rocks is hotter than the soil then you will get a high tone( because as you cross it your ground balance will be too negative at the rock spot) if the rock is less mineralized than soil you'll get a low tone ( because as you cross the rock your ground balance will be too positive at the rock spot)

What does your Vistas balance at on Ground balance?? at 2 o'Clock you should be able to overcome the high hit of a rock ...yet there's all types of different rocks too. Hence the terms hot rocks and cold rocks..LOL..

in outcropping areas around here on mountains I usually with any machine have to balance to the rocks because the soil is not as mineralized as those rocks and they drive you mad..but thats on any vlf..on Vista it could be up to three o'clock on those rocks but dirt may be at 1:30...there you will have to have good coil control height wise...

The vista runs like a Tejon does here and at times I need a higher ground balance on either unit to overcome the rocks..On the vista I would bet at 2-3 O'Clock you wont have problems with hot rocks but if you get lower you may very well so..

your ground balance is going to have to be higher than the rock and if you're in better soil a hotter rock will really stick out.

That's why on factory preset ground balance models they set them at ferrite...90% of the rocks will be taken care off..

Luckily though hot rocks sound wonky if your ground balance is too low...for them...they have that woo--- woo high tone sound as you cross them..yet only on isolated ones if there's alot forget it you have to get balanced to them or above them slightly

Hi Keith..
I have recently noticed with my Deeptech Warrior here in the UK on very mild soil ( ground balance at 12) , that Coke / hot rocks give a positive signal , but with Ground Balance at 2 o’clock it does seem to take them out / give iron indication though there does seem to be some loss of depth on good targets working this way but haven’t tested fully enough to verify how much. Something I possibly may need to check out further in the near future...

Rich.

I don't think you will lose a great amount of depth with GB set at 2 o clock depending on severity of the soil, though how much Coke/Hot Rocks you have to deal with keeping a correct balance is best for optimal performance, but not everywhere you'll be able to run a correct balance anyway, hard stubble for one reason.
The Vista Sprite is recommended for dealing with sites for people that have Coke in abundance, this machine can distinguish them easily.
