Need some info/experiences with this Whites detector

I was recently given a Whites Coinmaster 6000/Di series 3 that looks like new, but I know nothing about it. Can anyone here tell me what level of a detector this is and approx age? I'm probably not going to keep it unless it turns out to be a good outfit, its just got too many dials for this simpleton to want to use. However, what is your opinion of this unit? Thanks for any input.

The series 3 came out late 1985 or early 1986 if memory serves me right. It was once the top of the line but that was 25 years ago. It is still a very good detector in the hands of a skilled user.

its an older unit you can still find good things with it. the more you use it the better you will get with it.

Place all controls in the (P) preset position, pull the trigger then let go.

After every ajustment you must remember to pull the trigger then let go.

The manual explains the working of this model very well. I really like the

older Whites Analogue Machines, I own the series 3 and the x l pro

I love the trigger switch on both of the detectors and the meter's are

always bang on, play with it for awhile, you may be suprised at just how

good the older units perform.

I owned this unit in the 80's-90's. Most productive unit I ever used. But remember there was more stuff back then. The ID meter is phenomenal, better than most of today's detectors. No matter the price tag. It is a fast sweep machine. You may wish to get a hipmount kit to be able to fast sweep for extended periods of time without ruining your wrist and shoulder. Or get a Doc's Swingy Thingy. It's $35.00. That's the only downside to this magnificent machine is the weight/fast sweep requirement. In heavily mineralized soil I was getting a quarter between 8-10" max. The faster the sweep, the deeper it goes. If memory serves me, iron will make the meter needle peg on the left side of meter. However, iron can also make the needle go to the coin area, then drop to the iron area occasionally. That's the tip its iron. Shallow-mid depth coins almost always lock on & stay within 1-2 number range. Now a really deep coin may make needle fluctuate 5-10 numbers. You want to dig those signals. When you pinpoint the deepie coins the sound will be low. That low sound & coin reading numbers indicate deep coin.
Learn how to perfectly ground balance, above anything else you learn, and this beast will reward you.
