hello everybody, i need some info i am just getting into this and always wanted to do some det. and i am not sure what would be a good start a buddy of mine told me to get a garrett 350 cause i could find a used one pretty cheap but i also want to get the best i can at an affordable price thanks.

i am sorry that i didnt get this to come out rite i am wanting some advice on what metal det. to buy , i have a bounty hunter 505 but i cant seem to get it to work rite it picks up everything

I use the 550 but I would say get the 250 (yella fella)Its a high performer and I hear it just begs to go out and find yah stuff. I believe its around or just under $200. If you look at the past several pages of this forum you see lots of good examples at what it can find.

Cheers!

Pass on the 350. It's yesterday's news. Pick up a 250 which incorporates all the latest technology and can be purchased for $199 and performs like a machine costing three to four times as much. Simple to learn and simple to use with no big learning curve. It is so popular that it has been Garrett's top selling detector for months.

Seems most of the major manufacturers are down-sizing to some extent on their latest releases, but still incorporating a good bit of technology into even their lower-priced models. For Garrett, it's the Ace series, for White's the Prizms, and even Fisher and Minelab are doing something along the same lines in their Excel/Edge and Xterras, though they seem to have gone the higher "mid-price" route to save their "quality reputations" (yeah, whatever). Can't help but wonder if this is the new trend in the industry, lower prices and more features. I'm sure not many of us are complaining. Feature for feature though, the Ace 250 still seems to be the ONE machine to contend with among the competition. If I were buying stock in a metal detector company, Garrett would have to be near the top of the list at the moment.

Yeah and it's about time. I ain't getting any younger. :) Remember those bread boxes Whites used to put out? Took nine men and a cowboy to pack one around. Then there was Gardiner Electronics with their 12 foot shaft and 36-inch coil. Ain't progress wonderful.
