[attachment 31743 button.JPG][attachment 31742 b6.jpg][attachment 31741 b1.JPG]Been a while since I've posted. have been real busy. have seen many great finds and posts by t2 owners since I last posted so the t2 must still be doing ok. have a button found at a campsite from 1804 or 1805 era. it has some gold gilt on the front of the button but you can't tell in the picture. would really appreciate any help in trying to ID it. was found with the t2 at 6" by one of my daughter-in-laws. on private land with permission. also found this eagle button here in wyo so am sure it is a calvery button. I am not a relic hunter but we do find some while coin hunting. the eagle button was found myself at 8" with the t2. any help appreciated.

Hello Don,

The eagle button appears to be a General Service button, A Calvary button would have the letter "C" in the center of the shield.

Is it a one piece or two piece button? Somehow it appears to me it's a two-piece and from the detail it looks like an 1840-50's General Service button. Any stars circling the eagle button?

On the other button, I've ran out of time to look up this button and will check on it later tomorrow unless someone here finds a possible ID before then.

Congrats on the buttons Don, I'd much rather find old buttons like yours over a barber coin any day.

Hi Paul.
really appreciate it. do not see any stars above the eagle and yep it looks like a two piece button with Waterbury mfg on the back. the smaller button was found in Iowa at a lewis and Clark camp a couple weeks ago. there was suppose to be 40 men and think 27 were french soldiers but not completely sure. Paul looks like you and many others have been making some good finds with the t2, keep it up buddy. thanks again as I don't know much about these buttons.

don Wyo.

Hi Don,

Here's a pic of the same General Service button you found, It's the earliest type of General Service button (a spread eagle with shield) to be used for all corps.

I couldn't find an ID on the other button you found at the Lewis and Clark camp site, Very possible from another country?

I've read a book on Lewis and Clark, Great iron fist leaders carving a path to the west. Sounds like this camp site should give up some more good finds for you in the future, Hope it's not to far from your area. Sounds like a long drive?

Excellent finds Don, Thanks for sharing.

Hi paul,
That's it... thanks alot. I also am thinking the other button could
be from another country. it was a ways to drive from here to hunt but have some kids and grandkids there also. so we get to visit and had a chance to get in a couple weeks of good detecting and found a few good coins there and in Neb. also was a chance to try the t2 and a few other detectors out in different conditions. have been seeing the nice finds you've been finding out there in Calif. I lived out there for about 25 yrs in the san Jose and Santa Cruz area. miss it sometimes and the detecting there. take care paul,

don wyo.

Hello Don,

So you lived 25 years in the Santa Clara County area, That's one of the best if not the best county of locating relics in California.

Currently, That is the area I've focused on research of the older settlements. So far my last three coins out of there have been an 1836 Bust half dollar and two seated coins and allot of gilt buttons, Musket rifle parts & powder flask parts, all from adobe settlements.

It's a long drive from my area but the long drive is well worth the trip when an old coin or relic surfaces, You lived in an extremely good hunting area. I bet you do miss it allot :)

Thanks Don,
Paul (Ca)

Hey Paul,
That is nice country. that was in the late 60's 70's and 80's and we didn't have the detectors then as we have now. we could hunt the beach in Santa Cruz or head up north for some good gold hunting. I also hunted coon hounds and big game hounds also, so found alot of gold camps and old towns up north while hunting that we came back and detected. lot of good times....and your right I guess it's never to far if you can get some good detecting in. good luck Paul,
don wyo.
