Need Some Help Please

Hello Everyone,

I need a little help identifying this please. I believe it may be a fired civil war pistol bullet, but I am not real sure. If anyone could please help, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you,

Rodney

I'm no expert here but unless you cleaned that bullet up , I wouldn't think its that old. By now it would be white looking if it were from that era .
Just my thoughts. Definitely looks like it found its target though. But I hope for you that it is civil war period. Maybe someone more knowledgeable will give you a more accurate answer.

It's always hard to judge by a photo with nothing to give a sense of size with it. A micrometer would give the caliber, if you can get an accurate measurement. Also need to have a view or description of the base. I've dug lots of "white" post civil war bullets. Just my opinion on giving a judgment on whether it's civil war, or not. Just from what I see, I'd say its a good possibility.

keep on diggin'

It is difficult to really examine the bullet by photograph, but it appears similar to a modern style wadcutter or semi-wadcutter all lead bullet. The groves in the side allow grease or wax to be packed in there to help seal the bullet to the gun barrel during firing.
