Need some help on hunting and a new unit.

I used to hunt a little back around 1970, And have had an old 1210 for years. But it has only been used for finidng stuff on the farm that we need to find from tractors and stuff.
Well I get out the other day hunting with the 1210, find lots of stuff. Most of it was junk. But did find 4 old pennies and a dime. But this unit picks up everything that is there.
So looking at a better unit. Will be hunting for coins and civil war stuff. Lots of great spots to hunt, but some has lots of junk on it. Back around 1971 I did find a lot of coins at one old spot. Even have a 1804 Silver dollar from that one. But the back of it does not match the standard 1804 coin.

Now how to you dig and not have it look so bad? I know I have seen spots that people have dug, and they do not look bad. So how to they start out digging to keep it looking good?
On the better unit, not looking to spend a lot of $$ as with a bad back and heart. I can't hunt long at a time.
Any help would sure help me out.

Being an ardent CZ nut would advise you to pick up a used CZ as some have been going quite low and the acc. 5 inch coil also and you should do well...
Relative digging you need a sharp digger and a drop cloth to start with and early spring or late fall is the best time as during the summer the plug may turn yellow..
Basically dig a trap door plug on 3 side leave one side intact..Dirt goes on the drop cloth and when target retrieved you pour the dirt back in the hole flip the plug back down step on it and brush the grass with you hand and you should have a neat plug. I know one fellow during summer months actually carry a jug of water with him and water the area with good results when hunting yards but try to stay away from yards dring the hot weather..By the way visit your local detector dealer and buy a digger made for the hobby as garden tools fail very quickly...

Thanks I will look around and see if I can find a CZ. Our only dealer I know of, is a white dealer. He is within 5 miles of me.
I will sure try to dig like your talking about. I have close to 20 acres of my own that seen action durning the battle of Shiloh. Its south of the Shiloh Battle Field. So plan on doing a lot of hunting on it also. And then the old home place, used to have a bank on it. That burned down in 1898.
