Iv been hunting a few old places that are iron infested. These places cause the threshold to null almost constantly on the etrac. Iv tried AM with tones set to ferrous but the e-trac goes crazy with iron sounds. Iv used coin patterns but the etrac just stays nulled out 95% of the time. I cant afford a small coil at this time so does any one have any ideas for me to try.
I do have my fisher id excel with me all the time I guess ill have to use it in those places and miss anything below about 8 or 9 inches.
Those type of old places are exactly what I hunt almost all the time. I had the same problem with the stock Pro coil too so I went to the 6" Excelerator DD and it was much better. They are $99 right now at Kellyco with gratis shipping if you go through Tony I believe. The funny thing is I never had that problem with an Explorer and I'm not sure why the E-Trac does it. I'm sure there's quite a few experienced users on here that could shed some light on it...HH
I noticed that some good targets on my SE would sound off even during the nulls. I bet that the Etrac will do the same thing. I got used to all of the sounds with iron mask off and it doesnt really bother me at all, in fact, I would rather hear everything.
I guess I will have to get a smaller coil for it. I never ran any disc on any of my other units so i will just have to learn the sounds on the e-trac and use my ears and a smaller coil. I noticed the smart find screens seems slow to respond when im in the iron infestation sites. I have a lot to learn with this switch for fishers to minelab.
Just wanted to add that it seems like the etrac is extremely hot. Iv hit nickles that where off the depth scale. I mean crazy deep. Are they all that way. Maybe i should use the auto sensitivity and then back it down by 3.
Go check out some my earlier post with a search in this forum and the old explorer forum if they are still there..... I do not think they where moved.....
Hunt after hunt I have dug no iron and pulled many fine deep coins out of deep holes filled with cut nails....Make no mistake this is the meter machine to own and it can be off the known charts on depth on small and coin size targets......... But once you pick up on the distinctive ringing sound of Silver you will not even notice the high freq. chirps of Bad ground or high or Maxed manual sensitivity ......Take the time to build on solid foundation......then it will be a snap and you will pull Em left and right..... in your Sleep....
Like ya'll I have tested a lot of coils and the Two.... best are the stock 11 Pro coil.......and the 6 inch E square coil........to establish a point to myself one night I re-hunted an area with the 11 real slow and over lapped with real tight coil control ......And pulled 3 colonial coppers out of an area that had been hunted by a lot of hunters including me and the 10X12 coil, Sunray 5 and the eigth inch Minelab coil and the 6 above........So do not go coil crazy.... the stock coil is deadly and has superior separation &depth....
just do not be sloppy......tie your shoe laces together go slow but move the coil back and forth at the sweet spot sweet rate { to slow and no depth to fast and it drops off as well] easy wa to check is throw a quarter on the ground and find which sweep allows you to left the coil the highest and make it ring true......once you get a target that has the right sound and is off the depth gauge .......play with it before you dig it see if it hits on all points of the compass .......know this.... found many deep nice old coins in Iron that only read one way (east and west but not north and south vice versus).... But They Had the sound!... They can have the sound and be muffled ....To..... especially at extreme depths .....like it is breaking thru massive iron and stratified layers of human occupation(iron oxides)......Anyway that's for a more advanced analysis......Crawl....... before you..... walk..... and stand tall...... before you RUN..........E-trac is the one that it PAYS to know..
Sorry got a bit to long........ Dig In...... do your home work .......Do not expect to find everything in a book.....Best kept secrets are just that.... SECRETS........the land marks are already laid for those that persevere....and know how to glean true knowledge.....there are 2 great Reservoir's on the net this is one for Minelab Owners
Happy Trails
