Need some advice

Hello,

This is my first post and I know nothing about using a metal detector.

In a couple weeks I'll be in Florida with my family and thought it might be fun to search the local beach (Hutchinson Island) one morning with my 6 1/2 year old son. I figure/hope there will be a shop in Jensen Beach that we can rent one for a day.

Thought we might go out early one morning when the tide is out. As I have NO experience doing this what part of the beach is best to search for a beginner? (close to the water line?)

What should I know about this area/laws or restrictions?

If I find anything I will post pictures when we get back in early January...

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions. We are looking forward to a nice morning on the beach!!!!

Darryl

A one shot deal is not going to be enough!!...you will get hooked!! Renting a good detector might be hard to find. Garrett Ace 250 is a nice beginning machine although it does not perform that well near salt water, but the price is good for a new one..... $200 range. Give Kellyco a call......they have used machines and they are in Florida. You also need to find out when low tide will occur, there are websites for the tides in your area. Also check out the regulations for the area you will be staying at, some have postings right on the beach. Good luck.
