Need some advice from some of you old hands at this

I swore that before spring comes I will have a larger coil to go with the 250 and the sniper. Would I be better served by the 9x12 accessory coil for the 250 or the new 8 1/2x11 DD that came out with the 350? I keep waffling back and forth on this but I'd like to decide soon. I trust you guys expertise with something like this since you've handled so many of them through the years. I would appreciate your thoughts.

What do you plan on using this larger coil for?

Having an extra coil or two for your detector is nice, but there isn't much point to having it, other than having it, if you don't need it to do something specific that your other coil(s) can't do, or don't do well. Some like to get all the accessories for their rig just to have them, and I guess if you can afford that, more power to you.

I've had a number of detectors over the years, some with extra coils large and small and have found that I rarely need anything other than the standard stock coil. One exception was using a Six-Shooter coil on one of my old White's detectors in an area that had a lot of interference from overhead power lines. I found that I used that coil more than the stock coil. The rest of my extra coils sat in my detecting bag and went along for the ride but didn't get used more than a time or two here and there and looked like new when I sold them.

Help us out in giving suggestions and let us know approximately how you plan on using this bigger coil.

Larger is not always better. But if I was going to get one would go DD. Need a pretty clean area to hunt it will gain some depth.

In good ground the 9x12 should have a slight edge. The DD might be better
in hot ground though.
I have the 9x12.. It's good for 2-3 inches more depth than the stock 6.5x9 coil.
I use it in the more open areas and for deeper relics.

Thanks NM5K. That's what I needed to hear. I've never run across any hot ground up here, so that helps me a lot. Thanks.

I have also been looking into the nel coil. I have the 10x14 EQ2 ITs good bu I always have been impressed with the stock coils. I would try the 9x12. I also need a sniper, so both!

The 9x12 and Sniper coils were what I used on my 250. I ended up never using the stock coil. The 9x12 I used 95% of the time. Even at 2 bars sens I could get close to the play equipment at tot lots. The new DD coil on the ATpro is too hot even at 2 bars to get close to any metal in the tot lots. I need a ATpro Sniper coil for this. The 9x12 pinpoints dead on. If I were you in normal soil I would get the 9x12. Used they go for under $60

I'd go with the big coil. I never used my larger coil and now I use it more than half the time. It took me years to try it for more than a few minutes, and about 3 hours of practice to get used to it once I finally did an entire hunt with it. I seem to get around 2-3 inches additional depth with it, and I find most of my silver coins with it installed as well. My two cents.
